Just thinking about my dislike for Assassins Creed. I really disliked that puppy when it first came out, the original that is. It was the classic situation for me with that game, the first 2 hours were great but then i was just annoyed beyond belief.
But i went back as i noticed the good reception for AC2 and 3, and i finally found the light in the original AC while its not perfect its a really good game outside of doing the same tasks so many times. It really was alot more enjoyable as i took time away and came back like a year later.

That sounds like me and Infinite Undiscovery, I hated the opening and it really made me mad. But just putting it in the xbox and played it again for a few hours and i love it.

Believe it or not Fallout 3. When it was initially released I was very confused in how to play this game. Got to about mid-point and gave up on it because I thought the story wasn’t grabbing enough.
Came back to it last summer and put in 60 hours and beat the game. It is easily one of the best overall games this generation.

Guitar Hero.
I had no idea how to play that game at first. I kept missing notes, my timing was way off, and the songs ended up sounding HORRIBLE.
Once I got the hang of it though, I loved it. It's a great party game, I still break it out from time to time.

Oh, I should also add Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance from last gen. I wasn't really feeling the mechanics in that game to begin with. Dial-a-combo, stiff movement, etc.
But then... I dunno, something clicked and from then on, I was loving it. Unlocked everything in 'The Krypt' too, I was playing that game almost non-stop, ha ha.
Also, going further back, I remember I was HATING Rush 2: Rush America on N64 back when I first got it. I don't remember exactly why, but I was just *not* enjoying it. But then one night I was doing some Time Trials, and I fell into a "Gaming Zen" state of mind (you guys know what I'm talking about, right?) and I was suddenly hitting all the corners as the right speeds, finding shortcuts, flying off of ramps and just cutting through the tracks like a hot knife through butter. All while jamming out to that funky-cool techno soundtrack the game had. I was hooked ever since. Fell in love with Rush 2049 when that came out, too.
I'm sad the Rush series died.

I disliked Kingdom Hearts when I first tried to play it. Played it again a couple years later and loved it.
The series is getting stale, though...

Two games that have ended up being 2 of my favorites. Oblivion and Mass Effect. Oblivion I rented when it first came out and couldn't get into it. So I sent it back. Mass Effect I also rented and got up to the point where you are on the Citadel for the first time and although I didn't hate I didn't fall in love with it. Had other things to play and sent it back. Mind you at this point I couldn't get into RPGs at the time. Soon after that I got Mass Effect for Christmas and tried it again. This time I got through the Citadel and became a Spectre and then couldn't put the game down. Play throughed multiple times over the next couple of years. After then going on an RPG binge(Dragon Age, Fallout 3GOTY, Fable-if you classify it as an RPG, etc.) I then bought the Oblivion GOTY and played through that one and loved every minute of it.

Final Fantasy Tactics on the PSX. Man, when that first came out, I was lost as hell as to how to play that game. After a few rentals, my buddy figured how to play and we were hooked ever since.

I wouldn't say I disliked Halo at first, but I didn't understand why it was so popular. I played a little bit and set it down for a while. Eventually I decided to read the books, which got me interested in the game again. I started playing it again and loved it.

Yeah, I didn't see what the big deal with Halo was either. Until I played it much later on at a buddy's place.

FFX.
I rented it at first, and only had enough money at the time to only get it for 1 night so I tried to rush through it. This caused me to have no clue what was going on at the beginning, and I was completely confused and didn't understand the sphere grid at all. I ended up hating the game until my cousin bought it and I tried playing it again one night at his house. It is now on my top 5 favorite games of all time.

FF13, actually.
After playing through the first, oh, 2 hours of it it drove me nuts. I came back 2 months later and fiddled with the paradigm system, combined with constant switching for position, it quickly turned into one of my favorites.
Edit - Said gambit (woops ff12) meant paradigm.

FF 13 is a good example for the people that actually stick around for 20 hours.
I've not really had any expierences like that that I can think of. Generally if I dislike a game nothing changes to change my opinion. I went back and played Fable 3 recently and it was just as meh as I though.

The first time I tried PSO I thought it was absolute garbage. A couple of months passed, and then some friends were over, so we ended up putting it in. Then I couldn't understand what I didn't like about it the first time around.

Halo. I thought it sucked at first. I didn't really give it a fair shot until I played co-op and MP though to be quite honest. Once I understood all the little things and nuances of the game I began to love it though.
Fallout 3. Absolutely hated it for the first 5 or so hours. Actually I liked the very beginning but at first I was not digging the setting at all.

Wet was one that I was disappointed I'd wasted my money on but as I started to learn the moves and how to boost my point scoring I became a bit hooked and I actually played through 3 times on the trot using all the different game modes which is unheard of for me.
Rainbow6ix bored me at first and I put it away for about two years and then I went back and perservered through and by about midway I began to really enjoy the game.
Hitman, it seemed slow and laborious, and the controls seemed a bit awkward but again after about 4-5 hrs I was hooked and proper enjoyed it.

Dark Cloud 2. I almost shut it down after the first part with the annoying circus clowns, but I hung on... and by the end it was one of my favorite games ever. Also, Okami. In the demo, Issun drove me nuts... thought he was the most annoying character ever. I tried the full game and loved it... and even came to love the annoying fairy dude.
