Trying to finish Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for a couple of years now.
Once done I see both 1 and 2 of the movie.

I'm working my way through The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets nest. You guys could probably use a thread about that series haha as it seems like some of you want to rant. What do you mean? I have book 1 lined up in my backlog. I've heard really great things

I just know some people rant about Song a bit.
I'm going to start The Lies of Locke that I mentioned tonight I think. Just finished Hornet's Nest.
Though a part of me is considering reading Kingkiller Chronicles again, but I should wait until the 3rd book is coming.

I don't mind too much if there's lag between books in a series. I'd rather the author put out something worth reading instead of giving in to their rabid fans and putting out a mediocre book every 6 months. Like Charlaine Harris. I can't bear to read any more of the Sookie Stackhouse books because they've gotten pretty lame and predictable. It's kind of funny that you should mention that. I've been a fan but I just finished reading the latest one, Dead Reckoning, and I was disappointed.

Well, the problem is Feast came out in 2005 and some people have been waiting 6 years for a book he claims he was writing at the same time as feast. He didn't combine them because it would have been too long. I really shouldn't post from my phone, I hate typing on the small screen if it's not a text message and I miss some things. This, to me, makes me sound like an entitled jackass. Allow me to elaborate. Him taking awhile in between books (2005-present) isn't what bothers me and rubs some people the wrong way. It's the way he spent that time and how he portrayed that to the public. Martin has a website with a blog, and he continued to string people along while doing some massive personal marketing. He also wrote several other books. It wouldn't be a problem except for the first part, he kept making claims about "Dance" that obviously weren't true. He claimed he wrote it at the same time as "Feast" but, as per his posting, it's obvious he's basically had to write it from scratch. It's business, and I get that. However, I never really understood why he didn't come clean and just say "Feast kind of got away from me, and I need to re-ignite the spark for the series. Please be patient, as soon as I can get to the book I will." Instead of: "DANCE!"..."GO GIANTS"..."COMICON"..."-CON"..."TRIP TO EUROPE"..."DANCE"... 6 years later "DANCE!"..."GO GIANTS"..."COMICON"..."-CON"..."TRIP TO EUROPE"..."DANCE"... People may be sheep some times, but not that bad. After 3 years I just stopped checking. I heard about the HBO thing and then the release of the book after the season finale. I kind of got a sick feeling to my stomach about it. Maybe I am an entitled jackass. Oh well. I shudder to think about books 6 and 7, which are supposed to wrap up the series. If "Dance" is anything like "Feast", that's a tall order to fill. Thanks for elaborating. I obviously do not follow his blog (blogs being one of the highest forms of narcissism, but I digress) so I had no idea he was stringing people along. That's kinda lame. But I guess when people are talented and successful, it's easy for them to get away with being douche nozzles. What are ya gonna do.

I feel they've been going downhill since All Together Dead. Kinda hard to outdo a terrorist attack on vamp-con, I guess.

Game of Thrones boxset came in the mail today, will probably start that soon. So did mine, along with The Original Argument. Funny thing is the day before the box set arrived I found my original copy of Game of Thrones

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Everyone give Neo here a round of applause. Like I said Name of the Wind is great but Wise Man's Fear is simply amazing. I'm reading Daggerspell by Katharine Kerr.

The Wise Man's Fear is next on my list. This series is filling the void nicely while I wait for Martin's A Dance With Dragons next month.

Well I am not reading anything currently but if I recall the last book I read was Green Eggs and Ham...no wait...haha!
Actually it was Stephen King's Under the Dome. It is a very cliche book in terms of the story but I think King did an excellent job of bringing out the best and the worst in people when presented with a dire circumstance. I am not sure which book I will pick up next but I have no doubts it will be good!

Halo: The Fall of Reach
I'm trying to get through the entire book series over the summer, even if that includes having to re-read the first three books.

Hood by Stephen Lawhead
It's pretty decent. Started slow though. Just reading it to waste time until A Dance with Dragons is out and the new Dresden Files book a couple weeks later.

Trying to finish Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for a couple of years now. Once done I see both 1 and 2 of the movie. Did 90 pages last night and I have 111 more to go. I hope to finish this weekend in prep for both movies next week. Man, on the release weekend I went through half the book...what was that, 4 years ago? Still waters run deep.

I just bought the Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson. I am only 200 pages into the first book but so far, I have really enjoyed it.
My friend recommended him as he enjoyed another book of his he wrote. Plus i guess Sanderson is the one fishing the Wheel of Time series. I tried reading the first one and couldnt get into it.

You really have to be patient for WoT, it's a amazing series, but not for everyone. I just love how epic and broadsweeping the story is. I'm not sure where you are going to see something quite the same scope. Mistborn is a great series. Looking forward to the new Mistborn book. I'm reading Lies of Locke Lamora right now. Trying to decide what to read next. Looks like I have a list to consider from: blog.patrickrothfuss.com/2011/06/fanmail-faq-looking-for-good-books/

I'm on The Shadow Rising atm... I'm finding myself losing interest though as its beginning to get quite drawn out. All of the characters are spread out and I hate having to keep track of them all. Especially because I read before going to sleep and I don't want to have to actually use my brain. That's kind of my complaint with the last book for a song of ice and fire. He took so long getting that book out that I had forgotten a lot about it and then he spends a huge amount of time introducing even MORE characters that had little to do with anything. But c'est la vie. Still a good read.
