To start us off I'm reading The Girl who played with fire. First book was really interesting, hopefully this one is just as good.

I really need to get into a g ood book here soon. Haven't read anything since the latest John Grisham book and that's been a few months.
Maybe I should pick up 1984 and read it..been wanting to for a while now.

World War Z. Hooray zombies! Funny you mention World War Z, I recently found my copy that has been missing since I moved 3 years ago. I only made it through half of the book so I'll be looking to dive back in soon, though I'll likely be starting it over again.

Green eggs and ham You jest, but I just read that book the other day (I have a 2 year old) As for what I'm reading myself, it's currently Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein. I found his writing to be a bit on the juvenile side early on, but the book has improved a fair bit the deeper I've gotten into it. Edit: As you'll notice we now have a Literature forum

Cool, I was hoping we would eventually but figured I would see how this thread went before mentioning it.
I mostly read fantasy, so The Girl Who Played With Fire is a different type than I usually read. For those that are curious it's a mystery thriller sort of like the Dan Brown books but without the all the religious stuff. The first one was very good.
As for what you should read, I'm sure once Deltoid reads this he'll say the same thing. Go get The Kingkiller Chronicles. The first books is really good, but the second book, wow it's so awesome. The only problem is you have to wait for the next one.

I watched the movies made from those books recently and enjoyed them. From all I've heard, the books blow the movies out of the water. Course, that's true of 99.9% of books that are made into movies. I may have to pick those up.

^Currently reading A Feast for Crows (book 4 in the song of fire and ice series).
This series is just absolutely fantastic.
I thought Game of Thrones was great - 9/10 A Clash of Kings - 10/10 A Storm of Swords - 10/10
I'm hoping book 4 lives up to the greatness of its predecessors. I highly recommend these books.

Slowly making my way through Game of Thrones. Hoping to catch up on the entire series, including A Dance with Dragons, over summer break.

Cool, I was hoping we would eventually but figured I would see how this thread went before mentioning it. I know you had brought it up a little while ago and I was hoping to get a Literature forum then but it simply slipped my mine. It's really an amalgamation with the Comic & Anime forum which was one of our slowest forums anyway. As for what you should read, I'm sure once Deltoid reads this he'll say the same thing. Go get The Kingkiller Chronicles. The first books is really good, but the second book, wow it's so awesome. The only problem is you have to wait for the next one. It really is a fantastic series, I only hope that the wait between book 2 and 3 isn't as long as it was between the first two. I think that someone who isn't even a fan of the fantasy genre can get a lot of enjoyment out of the novels, they're that good.

Book 4 really gets out of control in parts. I liked it, but it's not for everyone. I'm ready for book 5 here very soon. I'm reading "The Jefferson Key" by Steve Berry. He's become one of my favorite thriller/history/historical fiction authors.

I heard/read book 4 is quite polarizing (with the majority having less than favorable opinions) but so far it seems really interesting. Looking at the chapter list, I'm assuming it's because of the lack of some crucial characters pov's. Which is fine to me considering the next book is right around the corner...

Well, the problem is Feast came out in 2005 and some people have been waiting 6 years for a book he claims he was writing at the same time as feast. He didn't combine them because it would have been too long.

That happens in lots of series. But the author does take a long time with the ice and fire books. Almost through with Girl who played with fire, then onto the last book in the series. After that I think it'll be time for The Lies of Locke Lamora.

I don't mind too much if there's lag between books in a series. I'd rather the author put out something worth reading instead of giving in to their rabid fans and putting out a mediocre book every 6 months. Like Charlaine Harris. I can't bear to read any more of the Sookie Stackhouse books because they've gotten pretty lame and predictable.

He didn't combine them because it would have been too long. I really shouldn't post from my phone, I hate typing on the small screen if it's not a text message and I miss some things. This, to me, makes me sound like an entitled jackass. Allow me to elaborate. Him taking awhile in between books (2005-present) isn't what bothers me and rubs some people the wrong way. It's the way he spent that time and how he portrayed that to the public. Martin has a website with a blog, and he continued to string people along while doing some massive personal marketing. He also wrote several other books. It wouldn't be a problem except for the first part, he kept making claims about "Dance" that obviously weren't true. He claimed he wrote it at the same time as "Feast" but, as per his posting, it's obvious he's basically had to write it from scratch. It's business, and I get that. However, I never really understood why he didn't come clean and just say "Feast kind of got away from me, and I need to re-ignite the spark for the series. Please be patient, as soon as I can get to the book I will." Instead of: "DANCE!"..."GO GIANTS"..."COMICON"..."-CON"..."TRIP TO EUROPE"..."DANCE"... 6 years later "DANCE!"..."GO GIANTS"..."COMICON"..."-CON"..."TRIP TO EUROPE"..."DANCE"... People may be sheep some times, but not that bad. After 3 years I just stopped checking. I heard about the HBO thing and then the release of the book after the season finale. I kind of got a sick feeling to my stomach about it. Maybe I am an entitled jackass. Oh well. I shudder to think about books 6 and 7, which are supposed to wrap up the series. If "Dance" is anything like "Feast", that's a tall order to fill.

I have about 40 pages left in Game of Thrones. I plan on finishing it tonight. I'm excited to see that the next books are better. I bought the 4 pack from amazon not too long ago. I have loved reading and watching the show at the same time. It has been very cool. I'll miss that with book 2.
6 years is a long time to wait for the next book in a series. I think that 2 to 3 is reasonable. 6 is a little long. Very interesting that book 4 is loved and hated.
