Whats up Seth, Saw no one had posted so I thought I would drop a line. I've never played FC2, but my brother played it and really enjoyed it. He was excited about FC3 coming out based on the fact that he liked FC2 so much. So I know he would say that it's worth playing through.
Hope this helps...

What a good job that was, too; beginning middle with game play and end. Nice job Ubi.

It's probably only worth playing through at least 70%. By that time you do every single mission type there is and have probably visited all of the cool areas.
The game is an open world shooter. It's really open world. You can really go anywhere at any time. Story missions open up as you complete story missions, but there are also side missions for you to do.
There is a gun unlock system, which is probably where a lot of the replay value comes from. Guns actually deteriorate the more you use them, and guns that you pick up from enemies are more prone to have problems. First they'll actually jam up on you. Then they'll simply fall apart and you won't have a weapon. So you need to unlock guns, and once you unlock a gun you can go back to a shop and get a new one of that kind at any time. By doing so you avoid the bullshit frustration that comes when your gun decides to jam during the middle of a firefight.
Also there are some stealth upgrades you can buy which help you not get spotted. Once you get that stealth upgrade then enemies don't know where you are when you're trying to approach a situation. I recommend you get the stealth camo upgrade as soon as it becomes available. It basically makes the AI react to you how you would have expected non-stealth to react. However, once you start firing loud weapons they usually know exactly where you are.
Overall it's a fun game, but I had to force myself to finish the story sequence. The story isn't that engaging and the payoff sucked. By the time you get the end there really aren't any surprises. It suffers the same problem as the first Assassin's Creed with the repetitiveness.

I played like five minutes of FC2 on 360 and took it back to blockbuster. I just couldn't get into it from the start and didn't feel like wasting time attempting to get into it.

The thing that really turned me off was simply that enemies just spotted you coming a mile away. I thought i was being all stealthy and just creepin around and id be behind a shed and they are like "i see you mofo!"....and that turned me off a good bit.

I think the ability to see the enemies within the environments turned me off right away. I got out of that house that was on fire and started randomly getting shot and couldn't tell where it was coming from.

I really enjoyed FarCry 2.... but I am pretty sure I was in the minority.
The graphics are gorgeous, the environment is huge, there is a crap ton of driving across it.
This game is completely open world and this can be a negative sometimes with how large the world is.
I always wanted to finish it but a game glitch corrupted my save at about 63%.... after about 20 hours in.
If you end of up liking the game, you can get a ton of gameplay out of it.

I bought it cheap but have yet to really play it. Been meaning to but it is so hard to keep up with all the games I want to play. I still want to finish Just Cause 2 which I never get around to it.

FC2 was a great game, it was hard at the beginning when you don't know what's going on and you've got that fever effect coming on but I loved it, got very fond memories of playing it and the story has stuck with me and I remember it perfectly even though it was like early 2009 when I played it. I never found a problem with enemies finding me when I was crouched in the bushes or underwater or something. It did take a fair few hours to get stuck into it though but I think it creates a pretty unique atmosphere that you don't find with too many games.
I'd def put some time in if you haven't played it before, what I thought was really good with it (for 2008 anyway) was the way the fire would spread when you hit the flame thrower on the grass. FC3 looks awesome on the E3 trailors, I'm looking forward to that

When i wrap up a couple games i think ill give FC2 another shot, just to see if maybe i was trying to rush through it perhaps at the time and that could of contributed to some of my issues i had. I hate having a game just get no love So i try to give it love as many times as its needed!

It's not really a game you can just run and gun, you really need develop some tactics for a lot of the det piece missions and there were some really cool det pieces too. It amazes me how much of the story and the game I remember tbh.
You need to think of it as a gta time wise, it's gonna take up anywhere between 60-100 hrs play to do properly

I would say yes. I know a lot o gamers had major issues with it - but I got deeply involved with the game's setting. It is still one of the best eye candy I've also seen this generation...

There's mostly the usual suspects, flame throwers, rocket launcers, uzi's, shotguns, AK's etc plus plenty of mounted weapons on vehicles and boats etc

There are about 3 different shotguns 2-3 SMGs. 3-4 Assault rifles 4 sniper rifles, 2 are semi automatic 2 rocket launchers 3-4 pistols 2 grenade launchers A flame thrower A mortar 2 LMGs About 3 different kinds of mounted guns (2 machine guns, 1 grenade launcher) A flare gun
Some weapons are clearly better than their counter-parts. Other weapons are just unique toys to play with, like the mortar.
It's hard to just run and gun through this game because you have to travel to do everything. Traveling takes up the majority of the time in FC2, and most of the time it isn't exciting.
