My gf and I finished the first one, liked it well enough, but i am unsure whether we should drop the cash on the second one now?
Is it just more of the same or is it unique enough to warrant a second go?

I've played through the first set of levels in the second one. It introduces some new elements that set it apart from the first, however, I don't think it improves upon the formula, so far. A couple of the new elements found in a couple of levels, I actually disliked.
It is also significantly more difficult. Could be a pro or a con.
The online multiplayer is a completely different concept from the main game. I could see myself enjoying it a lot with friends, but against random online strangers with superior skillz (and a much higher rank), it became an excercise in frustration. I played until I got all the online trophies and then had no desire to go back to it.

yeah but it looks like you played some online VERSUS mode right? I would be going through in local COOP with my gf hmm, still, it looks like it might not be a MUST HAVE at this point  |

I would be going through in local COOP with my gf hmm, still, it looks like it might not be a MUST HAVE at this point My first two paragraphs were pertaining to the local Co-op play. Only the last paragraph was regarding the online versus mode. I played through the original with my 8-yo son and he had a blast. He was super-excited for the sequel. After a few levels of the sequel he lost his enthusiasm because of the difficulty spike. |

After a few levels of the sequel he lost his enthusiasm because of the difficulty spike. ah gotcha... still unsure, since my gf is probably better at games than your son  (just a guess though) it might be more fun for us but then again i don't know how MUCH harder it would be, the first we found mildly challenging at times but really no trouble in the end to beat it! |
