I'm at work just reading an article on it and man, this game may blow the roof off video games. If it pans out how they are talking, we are in for a treat. Just reading the additions to Skyrim and the notion of implementing a level system closer to Fallout, call me stoked. And I'm loving the dragon aspect, looks amazing.
If this game does it right, it may very well be the best game of the decade... Least imho.

Bethesda learned a lot from Oblivion and Fallout 3 to the point I think we are going to see a near perfect executed RPG with Skyrim fully utilizing the power of the 360/PS3. It will be the greatest OVERALL game ever made IMO just because of what it all will offer. As far the greatest experience I still am holding on and waiting for The Last Guardian. Now obviously this is all subject to opinion and tastes but it will be a stunner in all areas no doubt and the pinnacle of this generation of games. Can you imagine how freaking amazing their games are going to be on the next wave of consoles!

What is this game, anyway? One of those first-person RPG games?
I mix this one up with that new Bioshock game...

I really hope this game is as good as a lot of the hype it's starting to receive.
I've always been a big fan of Bethesda games and I hope a lot of qualities that make Bethesda games, Bethesda games stay. I'm mostly talking about the exploration aspect. Bethesda games are rare beasts in how they make you play through a linear section to dump you into a completely open world. I've always admired that quality in Bethesda games and hope that continues in Skyrim.

I have shamefully never played a Bethesda game and my lack of gaming time these days means I likely never will.

Interestingly, I have owned Morrowind: GOTY edition for years now and it has never made it into my Xbox disc tray.
(But then I have over a hundred games in that same position. I could probably never buy another game and still have new stuff to play when I retire, but I still keep buying them.)

The number of hours I've sunk into the Elder Scrolls series eclipses anything else. So fuck yeah it's gonna be one of the greatest games ever. ME2 is currently my favourite game of time, and somehow I'm much more hyped for Skyrim than I am for ME3... I can't quite figure out why that is though.

I played the heck out of Oblivion. I don't even want to think about how many hours I've sunk into it. A lot.
And some of the cooler aspects of Fallout are making it into Skyrim, so I'm definitely excited. Especially now that ME3 got pushed back and I can focus all of my attention on Skyrim. ^_^

Hugh I think because Skyrim simply looks out of this world! Every screenshot i seen of this game is just drop dead gorgeous and the world of Skyrim that they are creating sounds too good to be true, but I really feel Bethesda is going to deliver big time. The one thing I am looking to hear about is how Skyrim handles loot. That is my only qualm with Oblivion, I just am not down with their loot system...and I hope its been revamped big time.

As long as I can be a stealth marksman, then the game will be awesome.

im hoping it will be. i sunk countless hours into oblivion thanks to some of the wonderful mods that were released.
i was surprised at someone mentioning how they hope it max'd out their console... i hope it maxes out my PC!! Playing ES games on consoles is doing them a great disservice.
It seems they really did learn from the previous games though with some of the things theyre announcing. Third person (especially spellcasting) was dreadful and no dual wielding... which wasnt easy for me to stomach since I like to play as a berserker (daoc class). But seems like these are rectified! I'll be crossing my fingers for much more diverse caves/underground areas.
Here's to hoping it will be the best game evar. I also hope they figure out a way to ensure better mod compatibility. That was a big PITA in oblivion once you really started adding in the mods.

I am excited to death for this game, i am in the same boat Setharion this game will be epic with combining everything they have done so far, with adding new features, and doing what all developers should do listening to their fans.
I have been a fan of the Elder Scroll series since Oblivion and have sunk more hours into the game than i believe i have slept, it was addicting, it was fun, it was everything and more it pushed the boundaries for what was possible with hours upon hours of main storyline to tons upon tons of hours for exploration, adventure, and many many side quests makes it a game with no ending. Even now 6 years after i bought it in 2006 and maybe 10 different characters ive created i have never seen every single quest completed and to be honest i have never even seen the ending to the whole main quest.
Than you add on Shivering Isles one of 2 of the expansion packs for the game but the major one which actually was useful and created tons of new stuff. It added hours to the game, created a whole new place to visit, added new features (like specific people you have to follow actually running for a big example, hours of my life were spent following those slow walking people), added new textures, ingredients, plants, monsters, and people. The expansion was amazing in how it really added more layers and icing to a already beautiful and masterful cake.
The new game should and hopefully will add all this and more much more.
Things i hope to look towards: -like Setharion said better looting more variety and less plain but still to where i can collect and be chilling in my house with 7 different kinds of axes -more interactive and user friendly construction set, multiplayer but not just being able to destroy the fantastic bosses using teamwork and awesome combos they have to include death match arenas and daily challenges and capture the flag type stuff but more pumped up and crazy -sidequests and the different things to discover -people interactions they were stale and boring in Oblivion but awesome and interesting with Sheogorath in Shivering Isles (must see guy, prince of madness, awesome lines, really crazy guy, see if videos of him are on youtube if you dont know who he is) and need uping -craziness of people meaning more insane people more people who will make you laugh and more people who will just make you squeamish and want to stop the game for a while -more clan/guild type stuff where if your in the fighters guild instead where they had no interaction with the mages guild its more of clan wars where each guild is trying to expand and grow creating a war between the guilds -magic spells/weapons less hard to figure out and more variety and more uniqueness -soul crystals or what ever those things were to restore magic to your weapon more availability or at least have it to where i dont have to spend hours trying to get to the top of the mages guild just to be powerful enough to get the right spell to have to find empty crystals to find big monsters to suck their soul into the crystal just to be able to have a very weak crystal that will only charge up my magic weapon for one use -more rewarding system for the quests make me feel like that gigantic troll i just brought to its knees begging me not to kill it with my awesome power was not for a pair of pants and enough gold to spend one night at an inn i dont really need -more of a challenge/search for magic weapons and armor instead of walk into one town and find 3-8 random items of magic for gold and a fort of guaranteed magic items every time you visit more like ooh an awesome castle that i found and went through was actually owned by a magic wizard and in his secret room i found these magically comfortable pair of pants
Though that list is long and looks like it can take away the value of a game which doesn't have or does have some of those things listed Oblivion was an excellent but 6 years doesn't help when the competition is getting newer and better. Its been 6 years Bethesda and everyone else is getting better, lets see if those 6 years developing this game will pay off. Whatever happens i see tears and the smell of let down for the other developers and any other game which might try and compete against Skyrim or whom release in the time that we are all still being amazed and plying the game. For i feel when it is released who ever jumps on this band wagon when it comes by will be surely entertained for a prety good while and wont want to buy any other game until we are satisfied, become a little bored, or at some point feel those rays of light coming through the blinds making us realize how long we have been playing the game and have to stop the addiction.
Sorry for the long post i got really into it and couldn't stop but i feel this will be an epic game so i had to put my very heavily weighted 2 cents in about what the series has been and what we should expect to come.

I couldn't get into Oblivion because the level scaling enemies and the ugly player models. As excited as seeing the dragon fights got me, if the game still has level scaling I will not play it.

There will still be level scaling. When level scaling is optimized correctly it works great; however that's usually not always true.
I have faith they'll do a better job implementing it. Fallout 3 did alright with it.
The backup plan is an OOO mod (you should've gotten it lance). OOO made Oblivion a lot, lot better. You should go back to it and install FCOM. That was a great mod pack. Got rid of leveling enemies and added so much crap that there wasn't much vanilla left!
