Posted this on BC, thought I might as well see some more opinions. After going through several LCD's, all of which had terrible uniformity issues I have decided to go with a 50GT25 3d Panasonic which I can get for 300 more than the 46" Sony LCD I returned. I've researched the hell out of it, but I want to hear some more opinions when it comes to IR and Burn in. I hear a lot of people say you have to be extremely careless to burn it in now a days, and that IR is fairly common but it goes away once you watch some other content.

I use a plasma, and the burn-in happens but it usually goes away once you watch something else.
The only thing I don't like about it is that it tends to be really dark. I have to max out the brightness even on non-dark games. I also don't like how video games seem to be loud even on lower volumes but anything else (cable or dvds) you have to turn the volume way up to hear it. It's so inconsistent.
On the other hand, it's also a few years old now, so newer plasmas may not have a similar issue.

I bought a Samsung 58" plasma back in 08 and have been using it as my main gaming tv ever since. I'm pretty fond of it. I've never had any burn in issues. It is pretty heavy though. And it gets really hot.

The set also tends to get less bright with age. Out of curiosity what do you own?

The Samsungs were awful, though they may have straightened that out in more recent sets, this was like 05-06.

But i cant Brad my Sammy is actually pretty amazing, theres no lag whatsoever...the model before mine was pretty bad. But this one was quite raved about and is still one of the better DLPs in terms of older models. It really kicks ass! But id love to say thats why you rocked me in madden, i cant though!

2K was my glory man, i just dont got it with madden but ill surely be back and ready to go for Madden 12 i just dont think i can pull off 3-4 seasons. I think one good season, maybe 2 is all im going to go for just so i dont get all laggy and stuff. I dont like holding up a league, so i think after a season or two ill just shut er down.

And actually it's not mine but belongs to one of my housemates. It's in the living room though so it's more convenient to use. My bedroom tv is a 42" LCD made by HanSPREE. I just got it recently so I haven't had a chance to play on it yet.

If you're going plasma, then I recommend a Panasonic plasma. Before that, Pioneer had the absolute best plasma and hands down destroyed a lot of the LCDs that were around at the time. Unfortunately, Pioneer doesn't make their Kuros anymore. So Panasonics are the ones to get. They can be a bit expensive but you get what you pay for. Awesome refresh rates with great black levels just make gaming on them awesome.
It comes down to how much you want to pay. If you want to stay under the 2K mark, then I say just stick with LCD. The refresh rates have come a long way and still look good. Not to mention they don't use as much energy. It's not a huge difference but something to think about in case that matters to you.
UPDATE: Just realized you did pick up a Panasonic. It should treat you well and perform better than most LCDs. I'm not familiar with the model you picked up but it should be good.

Yea it's their 2nd highest model behind the VT25, though the GT30 and VT30 are starting to roll out now too. Can't wait to get it!

Just saw a quick rundown of that set and it looks sick. I'm quite jealous. Enjoy, it's a hell of a TV.

I bought my first plasma in 09 and bought a second this year when my LED DLP started acting up. Love them both.

My buddy had a $4K LCD and traded it in for a $5K Plasma (sorry, do not the specifics) and I just recently saw it.
The first thing I noticed was that it was dimmer but the overall picture was about the same.
I say you really cannot go wrong with LCD or Plasma.
