Lets hear it from you WoW junkies, how did Cataclysm turn out?? Edit: I had turned off guest postings and that last WoW discussion got killed in the mix, sorry guys. But created a new WoW thread for everyone. On topic, I have an 80 pally and 80 mage that i loved to play but I just get so addicted to the game. But i feel like i miss out on so many other games at times, its so hard to balance it all. I quit before Cata, how awesome are the Worgens? That was my goal was to make a brand new Worgen Warrior and level him up. I cant think of it though or ill want to do it

Worgens are alright; I'm a much bigger fan of the goblins though. They're more asthetically pleasing, the story is better, and so are the racials. Unless you only play alli, definitely try them out My main is a 75 troll resto drood, then a 74 goblin resto shammy, then I have some alts here and there (mostly heals lulz). I'm loyal to the Horde for life. Anyone can add me to B.net if you like, and if you happen to be on US Ravencrest, look me up!

i'm just happy to play casual... casual as in an hour or 2 a week for now. When i have weeks off from school (time between quarters), i'll usually get around 10-20 hours of wow time in. As of Cata...meh, it has it's moments. you can level archeology at level 80 from 1 to 525 and level from 80 to 84 without doing any quests. sounds weird doesn't it? i still have about another 200-300 quests to do in the new Cata zones and I've been 85 with my warrior for a few weeks now.

It has its moments, but doing content over and over with the 5 or 6 80+ toons I have is just... bleh... I'm trying to find new ways to go through the 5 levels with each toon. I play Alliance on Argent Dawn and Horde on Ravencrest with Lucca.

I quit playing back when LittleBigPlanet 2 came out but I had a lot of fun playing a goblin when I was active. I just don't have time for it and when I quit so did almost all of my friends that play so I think it'd be a little less exciting now. A couple of my friends started Worgen characters, now that you can have both horde and alli toons on the same server it's easy to start both just to see how you like them. The mass of new worgens actually got really annoying (from the horde perspective) so I kind of have a biased against them...that and the goblin backstory was pretty awesome. They even had a Plants vs Zombies quest

I quit last month. But up till that point it was pretty good. Raiding was a lot tuffer then past. But not being in a guild that would raid with the same people for every raid night hurts progression. But in the end it just got boring just more of the same stuff.

They even had a Plants vs Zombies quest That quest is actually available to all races; just find the NPC in Hillsbrad and go through the chain quest. You'll accumulate some XP and gold, and at the end get your choice of gear plus an awesome vanity companion. Here is the quest chain and companion.

I'm not really digging it so far, although a couple of the zones to me are better than all of wrath combined. I haven't been able to get into a raid yet besides Baradin Hold, so that's probably what my problem is.

So was cata better than Lich King? while i had the most fun in Burning Crusade, Wrath was fun as well...but Cata seems to be a hit and miss. The story is a little more interesting and interactive, but I'm not feeling the need to do 5 / 10 man instances. not because they are more difficult then Wrath...because I loved the toughness that the heroics in BC brought to the table, but I just have no interest in doing them. I pretty much just log in now to get some achievements done, do some fishing and cooking (archeology if needed).

I never played Lich King. Like you Seth, I had problems with addiction in the game starting in mid-Vanilla (about the release of Blackwing Lair) all the way through The Burning Crusade. I raided all during this time and logged probably 5-6 hours a day on average, much more on Sundays (usually all day).
Is it better than Lich King? Friends who played Wrath who are still hard-core say yes. More casual people are split between yes and no.
I'd have a hard time giving my opinion without writing a book. The game is just so... different compared to when I played. I've been playing for about 3 months, have an 85 Rogue on Stormreaver.
Some things I've noticed: 1. Leveling is a lot more interactive and interesting, however the story-lines become more intertwined the higher you level. The only variations exist depending on your racial starting area. Once you reach ~20, you're experience begins to tie in with other races. It gets boring after the second, maybe third character.
2. Raiding is a lot different. To make encounters more difficult they just throw tons of raid damage around. Healing is stressful. However, no longer are the days of walking in blind to encounters or just being able to read up on abilities. I can go to youtube and get a full, comprehensive walk-through of each boss, at the cost of 10 minutes of my time.
3. The LFD tool has killed dungeon running. PuGging is terrible. It's seriously a giant troll-fest. If I can't find a guild group, I don't do it. The only exception to this is the 85 regulars. They're so easy, the group usually doesn't even talk.
4. PvP is much the same. Bad balance followed by nerfs. Farm honor for gear then do arenas. They do have a rated battleground system now, though. It functions like arenas or old pre-mades, except you get arena points (known as conquer points) instead of honor.
It depends on your tastes really. They're keeping some things, but have totally revamped other things (secondary states like haste, hit, etc.)
There still is a casual aspect to it though. Several of my friends still enjoy 5-manning old content for achievements after they had finished the new stuff. They need little to no raid gear to do this.
It's all about style of play, and I believe this is one expansion that caters to just about everything. Eventually you run out of things to do though, and doing it on another character just lacks something. I'm leveling a shaman (resto) for PvP. Once that's over, and my guild finishes Firelands, I'll likely unsubscribe until the next major content patch.
Sorry for the essay.

Great post there Dunker, answers so many of my questions.
Yea I think for me MMOs are just on their way out, even though ive said it before I just need to accept it. If SW:ToR can change the normal grind of MMOs and their "formula", i may be in for a new ride of MMOs.
But yea its just one of those things that i love deep down, but I know i need to steer clear of these days to enjoy my other games.
Good post Dunk.

I picked it back up, I'm sorta in the hit or miss category, enjoy some parts of cata, but seriously haven't been able to put the time needed to really enjoy the game like they intend for it, with training and all.

It's about the community in which you play, if you play by yourself it bites.

It's about the community in which you play, if you play by yourself it bites. Agreed. Things are just too ridiculous if you have to PuG. People do not care about anyone but themselves (or the people they have to care about to keep a raid/guild spot).

Unless the game is fresh and new, it's very hard to get into a game like that by yourself. I'll admit though, WoW is really old news at this point. I can't ever get back into it, regardless of the people I know who still play. Same reasons I can't hop back into UO.

Cataclysm is excellent.
The problem with it is that it is nothing really new for the old players, just more of the "same" with new textures.
The difficulty increase and lack of Epics was also a retarded decision that basically forced me to cancel. I don't know about you guys, but I don't have the time to spend weeks chasing for epics anymore, but I still want the rewards.
WotLK had the perfect balance IMO, where you could grind instances to get some l33t loot and feel you progressed.
Anyways, I cancelled in January for the first time since the game came out.

I find it interesting that you started with "Cataclysm is excellent." and progressed as you did. They did re-release the troll instances that drop 353 loot (slightly less than normal raid gear) but they are nearly impossible to PuG (I've had a success rate of about 1 in 7, not exaggerating). I'm hoping 4.2 will alleviate some pressure on the casual player to find things to do. We'll see.
