I just wonder, I guess it's not a question any of us can answer but more of me just curious if people are actually buying PS3's for their bluray player.
I don't own a PS3, not since my PS3 3 years ago got the YLOD and I chose to go 360 only since.
But I recently have thought about some kind of bluray player as I do miss not having the feature. Looking at the prices now, it looks like you can get a player for half as much as a PS3.
I cant imagine people are still buying PS3's for the sole purpose of getting a bluray player. And if this is the case, maybe it's time to drop PS3 to $199....

Not anymore. Before, people would justify buying one because it also played games. So it was between a stand-alone BD player that cost just as much as a PS3 or an actual PS3. But now there are way too many BD players that are around the $100 mark.

Yeah, I've seen blu-ray players as low as $75. So there's not really any need to get a PS3 for blu-ray if you're not going to use it for playing PS3 games.

I probably wouldn't buy another one if mine died. I really only use it for Blu-Ray. I have hopes of someday playing some system exclusives. But my 360 backlog is so damn deep that I'll probably never get to.

I would say no, but it sure is a nice bonus to have one.

Yea I dont think BD is a major selling point for PS3s like they were but it is awesome knowing that they give you one still, regardless. Having 2 birds killed with 1 stone is always nice. But its nice that BD players are down in price these days, gotta love that!

I would like to have a PS3 to play some exclusives, it's just not going to happen when 360 offers me almost everything I need. I think I'd prefer to have a 3DS or NGP as my next system I buy.

I have a PS3 and love it as my Blu-ray player with the slick BD-remote. I love that the remote is bluetooth and therefore does not need line of site to function. I love the the PS3 is so future-proof and has been upgradable as new BD tech is released, like 3D. I want a blu-ray player for my secondary TV as well and want to get a second PS3 for that purpose.

Doubt it. Standalone players can be had for around 100 bucks now.

Things are moving away from disc-based media. It's eventually all going to be files of course. I agree with the others in saying yeah it's nice to have my bluray player on my ps3 but if it died I wouldn't run out to buy another one.
