Anybody else have fond memories of PC gaming in the 80's and early 90's? We had an Apple II+ with an all green monitor in the 80's and I didn't have many games but I had a heck of a great time with the few that I did have. The ones I remember the most were Moon Patrol and Defender. I also used to...well....my dad and Grandpa and I used to program games in BASIC language. We'd buy pc gaming magazines and type out the "formulas" to create a new game. lol And then there were all the hours spent on my grandpa's Commodore 64. Those terrific Epyx games. Got my first taste of Test Drive on that computer. Then around '90-'91 we got an IBM compatible PC and I started wasting hours, days, weeks downloading and playing games on that thing. The first game we got with it was Lucasarts Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. (This was before Monkey Island) Last Crusade was badass. Still one of my favorite games of all time. Remember Scorched Earth? Wolfenstein 3d? Duke Nukem 2D sidescrollers? Commander Keen? Those were the days. Thank God for Dosbox.

You know my answer before i even say it Dave! Loved them...my greatest memories were the days of old PC gaming, playing on 3 and 4 color screens at times or playing simply text games like Zork. Ill never forget those days man, there was just something so special about those days its just hard to put a finger on.

I remember text based games. "Press arrow to go left." You press the arrow. "You went down a tunnel. Suddenly, you hear a roar! Oh no, the monster is close!" I don't remember what it was called, but I played it all the time.
My other favorite was Breakout. I was really good at that. ^_^

I used to play an awesome text based pro wrestling game on Apple II+. It was such a simple little game but it was great.

One of the things that allured me to computers and get a degree in IT was playing video games in elementary school. I was fascinated by Carmen Sandiego, Oregon Trail, and various puzzle games like Mathblaster.
It took a while for my family to get a PC, but as soon as we did I was hooked. It was an IBM with an AMD K6-2 processor. We bought some collection of mini arcade games and I enjoyed them, even if they sucked. I played Myst, but I got stuck a few hours in so I blamed my problem on a bad CD and installation. The computer handled NASCAR Racing, and the game was pretty sweet. You could customize your car's look and performance, and it really did a great job simulating driving a NASCAR car. The tracks were pretty much spot on. There were also a couple of other DOS based games I played, but I can't recall the names. One of them was sort of like DEFCON, so if anyone knows the name, let me know. Edit: With some vague details and googling, I remember the game! It was Shadow President!
I really wish I would have known what some of the good PC games were back then. Right now I'm playing The Secret of Monkey Island remake, and the game is just awesome. I wish I would have known about these kinds of games in the past.
Then in High School I and my friends would download games like Age of Empires and play them during class, mostly because we were fascinated by how fast the school's DSL downloaded. Everyone in the school came from an area where only 56K was available at the time. DSL didn't show up in the area until after I graduated.

I was in love with the LucasArts adventure games back in the day, so much fun.
First multiplayer I can remember was Red Alert. I played so much multiplayer against my friends, though of course my parents were always pissed at me because I was hogging the phone line ;D
