Couple thoughts right off hand. My cousin was watching me play the game and he brought up a good point. If you play the first 10 minutes of Vanquish, it does remind you a bit of Halo : Combat Evolved. Getting attacked in space, blah blah. His point was that when you start the game in Halo, you're brought out of status and immediately put in the shoes of Master Chief (don't see his face so you put yourself in his shows...you are Master Chief). Then when you're playing, you go through the events that are happening now. Ships getting attacked, the walls are shaking. In Vanquish, you see this opening video of battles in space and then you see the main character...then you play as him. Instead of playing through those events of the attacks, you're playing after the attacks and pretty much playing at the most important part which is to kill the boss (Chapter one). If this was Halo, you would have been in the shoes right from the get go and would have seen all of the attacks from your eyes (characters' eyes) instead of watching a video.
Is that the difference we have between western and eastern development styles? Western styles want you to play the part of the role player whereas Eastern wants us to witness the story? If that is the case, then why did Platinum Games decide to create a Western 3rd person shooter with Eastern storytelling and think it would sell well in the West?
By the way, I'm loving Vanquish so far, just some ideas that he brought up and i thought I would share.
