Nintendo hasn't had great third party support since N64.

But they still do just fine.
What I'd be worried about is 3rd parties just dumping PS3/360 ports on the system. Should be a good E3 though, I love hardware premiers!

Yeah it will be exciting, be interesting to see what Sony and MS have to counter.
Regarding PS3/360 ports, that will absolutely happen...I'm sure Ubisoft will have plenty of launch titles ready for the system.

Nintendo hasn't had great third party support since N64. Just on their consoles, though. Nintendo needs to find a way to get all the support they get on their handhelds, onto their home systems. You nailed it Grant, Nintendo needs this badly.

I'm surprised it's already going to be playable at E3. They've been working on it in secret for a bit, it seems.

New consoles are always exciting, so I'm anxious to see it, but it seems too soon.

^^
It's at the exact same life cycle of all of Nintendo's previous systems. It's definitely not too soon. MS/Sony are trying to extend the life cycle.

It does seem too soon. I am so not ready for the next iteration of consoles. Do you think Nintendo may be jumping the gun because they feel the Wii is losing a lot of it's steam?

It's not too soon for Nintendo because third parties aren't even trying anymore on the Wii, and it pretty much fits their upgrade cycle.

I think it just feels soon for people because we haven't been playing our Wii all the time in the past five years. I'm pretty sure that's why it felt soon to me when I first heard the announcement. ;D

You know what, that's probably a good chunk of the reason, Phoenix.
It doesn't really matter if it was their life cycle in the past, it still seems to soon for me. I think we also need to factor in that this is the first system that really nailed it with the casual and traditional non-gamer crowd.
I'm not sold that these people are willing to pour money into a new console this soon, especially when Wii's were still being bought hand over fist years into the life cycle. To me, that means that a lot of these folks haven't even had their Wii for 5 years.
Maybe Nintendo is planning on changing gears again and going back to a console more geared towards the "hardcore" gamer but I think that would also be a mistake as it will send mixed messages to the market. Or perhaps it will again be something completely revolutionary and Nintendo will hit on all cylinders again.
We'll just have to wait and see.

I just hope it doesn't turn into a Saturn/Dreamcast thing.

Or perhaps it will again be something completely revolutionary and Nintendo will hit on all cylinders again. We'll just have to wait and see. There should be no mixed messages. There's no reason why this console can't cater to both. Sony and Microsoft are doing both right now with Move and Kinect. And there are a lot of people who buy 360s, PS3s, and Wiis who don't own them for the entire five years. Most people don't pick up consoles on launch. A good chunk wait until at least the first price cut to get a console. So those people will always a half generation behind anyway. Which doesn't matter, because they play catchup with the games on each platform, and by the time their done they get a new console. The "casuals" are usually the ones who wait until a console gets a price cut, or they will get something that has a unique hook. The touch screen on the controller will probably be that hook to nab a few casuals. When Nintendo price drops their system, more people will get it. The Wii launched cheaper than the competitors, and it had a unique hook with motion gaming, and that is why the "casuals" picked it up. They don't give a rats ass if the system also caters to the hardcore, because they don't follow it that closely. All they do is pay attention to advertisement and marketing. So Nintendo can market this machine to the "hardcore" by showcasing the type of games they like (Call of Duty, GTA, lol) to hook them and at the same time show the touch screen hook.

New consoles are always exciting, so I'm anxious to see it, but it seems too soon. 6 years is too soon? Hell no, especially since the Wii looks like GameCube+...if that. I am looking forward in seeing how they utilize the tech with games like Mario, Zelda, and Metroid with graphics that will be reportedly better than PS3/360. They got my attention I will say that. I stopped playing the Wii once I beat Mario Galaxy.

I don't care what no one says, Nintendo will, and i repeat will, NOT bomb on this console only for the sheer reason because Nintendo doesn't innovate, they invent.
