Ever hit up stores for penny guides?

I will sometimes spend full cash on guides but if you find the right places, you can snag some penny guides.

Basically when guides are on the shelf a certain period, the stores mark them to 1 penny and throw them away. Thats awful imho...at least if they would cut them down to 5 bucks or something they could sell them.

So if you get to know someone at the stores they can sometimes help you out and you can get the guides for free basically.

When I used to work for GameStop, I took home penny guides all the time! Can't remember them now off the top of my head, but I know I managed to score some good ones.

Ohhh lucky you Phoenix!! Very nice, yea i got a buddy at gamestop that will give me a buzz when hes about ready to chuck some guides, what a waste when they get tossed!

I've bought a few guides just because they were in great condition and cheap before.

The manager at my local Gamestop knows that if they have any guides reduced to a penny to let me know before they toss them, as sometimes i'll get them for games that i'm interested in, but have not purchased yet.

I have a closet full of SOCOM 1 guides I bought for a penny each.

Never heard of that before, I need a lot of guides, too; better get on that.

Never heard of penny guides before. I don't think I'd be interested; I wouldn't want the clutter, and I never use player's guides anyways.

Yea it is easy to clutter with guides, I try to keep a good handle on it. But it is a money saver if you can definitely wait to get them.

Wha? I have never ever heard of this before. I stopped buying guides back in the N64/PSone era because they were just too pricey and I could get what I needed from Gamefaqs. For 1 cent however, I'd be game!

s it just Gamestop/EB that does this or Toys R Us, etc as well ?

Damn I am glad I am not the only one whoever heard of this before. The only guides I have purchased in the last couple of years are the Fallout 3 GOTY and the Fallout New Vegas. I bought the NV one because it is the same guy who did the Fallout 3 guide and I thought it was a great guide. Plus I got them both in a deal. I also bought the recent Final Fantasy XIII guide as I was new to Final Fantasy and some of things going on in that game are confusing.

Never heard of Penny guides. But I like to hunt down some guides for cheap. Got a Pokemon HeartGold/SS guide for 5 bucks one day at a used game store.

I think any stores that have guides Delt, just gotta find the right manager to talk too really.
