I can't quite decide whether I like or completely hate this season so far. Anyone else?

What about this season so far don't you like? We're only two episodes in. I'm looking forward to this season. Eric is probably my favorite character and this season is about his amnesia. ^_^

I'm on the fence simply because I can't decide whether they're improving on Charlaine Harris' books or completely ruining the plot by deviating so much from it. I know I should just divorce the two mediums in my mind, but it's really, really hard. And King Bill? Really? I just can't take that seriously. Not killing Lafayette I can live with, since Nelsan Ellis is effing awesome. But King Bill... I mean, really? Really?!

Oh that. Yeah I don't like Bill very much to begin with, but I'm interested in seeing where they go with this.
I like that the show is different from the books a little, because it means you can still be surprised.
I also like having original characters like Jessica in the show. ^_^

It would make for boring TV to stick with Sookie the entire time like the books do. I don't mind that they give all the other characters some face time or even create new ones; we really don't see much of Hoyt in the books anyway so it's been cool to see more of him and Jessica adds to his development. I also don't mind the complete removal of characters like Bubba, because he's kinda cheesy anyway. And I've long ago gotten over not killing off Lafayette because the actor that plays him is awesome.
But there were certain parameters set up for the mythology of all the supernatural beings in her world, which they've disregarded. That is a little irksome. And with killing Sophie Anne the way they did and making Bill King of Louisiana...it seems they're going to avoid the Vamp-Con storyline, which sucks because that was one of my favorite events in the books and tells you a lot more about the way vamps run things in their world. I was also a little let down they didn't get into her relationship with Hadley and the entire reason they were interested in Sookie. It isn't just because she wanted to walk in the sunshine. I feel they oversimplified all things Sophie Anne a little too much. And what a waste of Evan Rachel Woods' talent...
I am interested in where they go with King Bill, but it still feels wrong.
