I was reading this month's Nintendo Power and I got to thinking about all of the awesome JRPG titles* on the DS. Including a new title coming out that has been in development, more or less, for three full years... Solatorobo: Red the Hunter . Now I realize that this is an Action/RPG more in the vein of Zelda but Hiroshi Matsuyama hasn't strayed far from the JRPG roots with this one!
Anyway, the Nintendo DS (various incarnations) has been for the last decade at least the king of systems when it comes to JRPG titles IMO.
* Japanese Role Playing Games are generally considered different than Role Playing Games (RPG's) because RPG's have expanded to include FPS titles that feature upgrade and save game features but rely on combat far more than story to drive the game.

Well since jrpgs are said to be dead on consoles, handhelds are the best place to get them. Not only that, jrpgs on handhelds tend to be pretty awesome because the graphic/power constraints mean more focus on other aspects of the game. So it makes sense that the proliferation of jrpgs on makes Nintendo handhelds more appealing.
I bet the 3DS will sell a lot when great jrpgs like Tales of the Abyss 3D come out, too.

I voted false primarily because I think of all the games out there focused towards kids. And, it is astounding how many kids have a Nintendo DS or two. Gotta have a backup when one has a dead battery. So, yes, many buyers get it for the JRPG aspect, but with the kid focus, alot of parents are picking them up to keep kids happy too. Not that this is a bad thing because on a long car ride, it really cuts down on the fighting.
