sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nhl/news/story?id=6732914It was 9 yrs and 60 million but they got their man. I really was hoping they did sign him. Centering him with Gaborik could be huge. Hopefully Gaborik has a bounce back year. So what do you all think of this signing? I am excited.

Being a Leafs fan, I am disappoint. We got Connelly, though, a.k.a. the poor man's Brad Richards

Maximus they were saying if the Rangers missed out on Richards then they were going to target Connelly. I was also reading that the Rangers didn't even offer him the largest contract.
Also Tomtim with all the arena issues the Isles are having August 1 is a key day. If that proposal for a new arena doesn't pass then we will likely see the end of the Islanders on Long Island. That will be a sad day.

Somebody had to overpay for Richards. I'm glad it was the Rags.

I am too Bing. We need him big time. I guess we overpayed but at least I can take solace that we weren't even the highest offer out there. I like the mix the Rangers have. We have a lot of gritty young players. I think Richards leadership will fit well on this team. If some of these young guys continue to improve, Richards does what he always does, and Gaborik gets his scoring touch back we could have a good thing going in MSG.

Richards is a decent pickup. But the free agent pool was pretty shallow this year. That drove his price up higher than it should be. But you are right. NYR have some good young players. The Atlantic division is going to be tough.

It is but that is the way teams are circumventing the salary cap these days. I am sure in the next cba that will be taken care of.

Standard response would be Rick DiPietro, but the Rangers were already hit with Scott Gomez. Yeah 6.66 (lol) might be a bargain in a few years with the way the cap has been rising, still there's too many risks with these long term deals.
It'll be interesting to see how many years the Pens will give Crosby when his contract is up.

Well Rick DiPietro is like a 15 years deal and even though the Rangers were hit with Gomez they were able to trade him. Look I am not a fan of these long year deals but sometimes you have to go there to get your man. He makes the Rangers a lot better and if they win a couple in the next 5 years it is all good.

DiPietro was 6 years younger than Richards when he signed his deal though. They'll both be 40 when it's up.
A couple? Hell if they win one during the coarse of his contract then it's a great sign. Not putting down your team, it's just that hard to win.

That will be a sad day. Yeah, I'm thinking the Sabres may have offered him a ton, but he was non-committal and wanted to take his time, so they didn't want to miss out on their second choice, Leino (10 years 40 million), and so they were out of the picture on Friday afternoon. As a single guy he wouldn't have come to Buffalo anyways. Maximus, that is just too much money for Connally, but he will add something to the Buds. Tomtim...I am sorry, man. On a side note, it is such a nice change, as a Sabres fan, being one of the "have" teams in the league when your owner is worth 3 billion dollars and loves hockey.

By the way, sorry: Erhoff was 10 years, 40 million. I believe Leino was in the neighborhood of 26 million, but I do not know for how many years.

Not putting down your team, it's just that hard to win. I didn't mean a couple! Not sure why I wrote that. If they win one cup the contract is worth it. I know Pietro was younger but 15 years. Look at Kovy and the Devils contract as well. I think the contract lengths are out of wack but it is what it is. Sometimes you have to take a chance.
