I got it now for the 5th time. . I hate RROD, its even worse cause i only play my Xbox for about 4 hours a week. Now i got to dismantle this thing and nick and pick untill its fixed. I swear soon as the WiiU comes out, I'm getting that and sticking with only that and my playstation.

Damn that sucks to hear. XBOX has me because no matter when I don't think I can lose my XBOX. The other systems yes but not the box.

Both times I fixed it but that is temporary. Its a shame these systems fry like this. Sondiame, maybe its time to look into replacing with one of the new slim Xbox's. I know eventually I am going to have to do the same with my PS3.

So if your playing with like 5 of your buddies in your room and the controller is ontop of the Xbox, then it may open the tray or turn the system off, plus there is nowhere for you to put a old hard drive, which is where all my shit is.

My first two X-box's Red Ringed...What a pain in the balls!... I can't imagine it happening five times!...I just got a new slim model and love the thing...It's soo quite compared to my last x-box...On the harddrive issue, I had a transfer cable from when I upgraded to the 120gb, so I just bought a new slim 250gb harddrive from Ebay(paid $50 free shipping) and transfered it all right over
Definitely worth the upgrade IMO...Especailly if you old x-box sounded like a jet ingine like mine did...But I do agree that the open/power buttons are very touchy but haven't had an issue with it yet.

It is sensitive but honestly I have had the slim for close to a year if not a year and I haven't had an accidental shut off or tray open yet. Then again I never put anything on top of any of my consoles. And it is so simple to transfer all your stuff from one hard drive to the new one.

This is my second 360. My first one RROD on me like 3 weeks before the extended warranty ran out. Sent it in and got it back, and 2 years later the disc tray motor dies on me again (it was acting up right before the RROD so I kinda got a repair on that for free too ). And now I have a slim, which I love. I don't accidentally turn it on/off, but I have unintentionally hit the disc tray button when I'm dusting around.

Ouch... 5th time's a charm?
Only time ive had a 360 RROD on me is when 360s were relatively new and I was borrowing my friend's. Got 2 hrs into halo 3 and it went kaput. Got another couple of hours out of it with the towel trick but eventually it was toast.
No RRODs with my own 360 though... I waited till I got a model with HDMI since they were less prone to RROD.

I'm on my second 360, but I've never had the RROD. It's my primary gaming device, too. I guess I've just been fortunate. Sorry to hear about all the troubles you've had with yours.

The 360 is a piece of shit, period....hardware that is. I have had 6 consoles since launch and I am sending one out literally today because it got fried in a storm (slim model).
That was my fault for not having a surge protector but my PS3 didn't get fried.... (both were off when my 360 got fired too).
I can only hope next gen I only have to buy ONE console during its life span like every other console I have ever owned in the past.

No doubt. From a hardware stand point, the 360 is total rubbish. It blows my mind how many problems they have.

Exactly. And i have to compliment Nintendo because you've never heard anything about a Broken Wii, ever, no Light of Death, just one or two easy to fix error codes.

It has always been that way with Nintendo. Christ I remember seeing a video of a kid almost destroying the GameCube and then he went inside to play a game and everything worked fine!

I've had my 360 for a year and a half. No problems. Though that could be because it's probably not gotten more than 50 hours of playtime since I've had it...and I'm being generous.

I had two break on me. The first was a launch system that got the RROD on the first day. I promptly replaced it, and then that system lasted about three years. It wasn't a RROD that killed it, though. It just stopped reading discs. Understandable since I played the crap out of that thing. =P Briefly I replaced with an arcade unit, which I then replaced with the red Resident Evil 5 bundle 360, which I still have.
Honestly, it's irritating that they are made badly, but my 360 library is so huge that when the red one dies I will still replace it. The money I have poured into getting all of my 360 games is probably at least 10 times what one system costs.

I had one RROD, on my launch system. They sent me a new one, never had problems. I sold it to buy a slim model, and my friend says the old xbox is working, and my slim never had a problem. And i hope it never will.

^^^ I think the slim's are damn solid. Mine got fried in a storm but overall I haven't heard any reports of an RROD with them.

Crazy cause my Xbox before fell down the stairs, fell in snow(in the box on Christmas), and almost destroied by my sister before the first red rings and it worked normally.

I had one 360 RROD on me, I bought a replacement, and the system started getting very noisy. So, I got one of the redesigned consoles later on, but it's about as noisy as my older 360. It's even kinda funny that since MS couldn't get rid of the RROD problem, they just eliminated the ring. One of my friends went through 3 360's, and gave up. Another friend is on his second 360. My cousin's 360 caught on fire! 0.o Honestly, they couldn't have used cheaper hardware if they tried.

Yeah like Seriously, I'm really just about to sell my 360 and get a PS3, I have a Ps2 and PsP anyway, only seems natural. Any thoughts on that?

PS3 has been very reliable for me and my two friends that I mentioned in my earlier post. The HDD is easy to change too. I put a 500 GB hdd in mine, and 1 of my friends bought a 500 gb hdd but it had a 640 gb in the box. The only problem I have is that Sony's servers are powered by very obese hamsters. It's extremely slow.

^ Which model of PS3 are we talking about, though? The older phat models have issues similar to those of old 360s.
Sondiame, there's no reason to consider buying a PS3 now if reliability is your chief concern; the slim 360s have proven to be quite reliable. I can understand that you're upset, but it seems as if you're letting your emotions cloud your judgement. Yes, the old 360 hardware is trash, but those days are over and there's really no reason to switch platforms unless the PS3 library interests you more than the 360's.

All three of us are on our original PS3's. I had a 40GB fatty (no BC), the guy that just put in the 640gb hdd had an 80 gb PS3, and my other friend has a launch 60gb model.
