Just stopping in quick to announce that 2 hours ago I signed on the dotted line.
I'm a home owner.

dunker, welcome to a totally new world. "Turn that music down!" whoa, whoa...uhhh, I don't think so. I should do some chores...tomorrow. However, the government will remind you that even if you pay off your house sometime you really don't own it. Don't believe me? Try not paying your property taxes. ;D Congrats, man.

Congrats!
As a homeowner myself I understand how stressful that signing on the dotted line really is. There is nothing quite like having a debt that will last decades of your life!

I love owning a house. I hated throwing money away for rent. Now, when that money goes out the door to pay for something I have to show for, that is a good feeling.
Congrats on the purchase! It is a big step but totally worth it. Now post some pics in the post pics of your house thread!

Yea its amazing the difference, especially here in Pittsburgh. When i rented for a short short time with a buddy, our rent was about 800 some bucks including only water. The mortgage my wife and I have, city taxes and all which the taxes here suck..bout 2,200 or so, its mixed into our mortgage and overall its about 630 bucks mortgage and taxes. We bought a foreclosure that needed remodeling and thats exactly what we did. Beautiful, neighborhoodly street and a huge house to boot in terms of space, high ceilings, nice sized kitchen, living room and nice big front porch etc...it just needed serious TLC but thankfull thats my field Either way, youll enjoy it Dunker...like Mud said, nothing like having something to show for your good money paid towards it.

Seth: that sounds really nice, but the most important thing is: do you have a spare room for me when i go to Pittsburgh? And do you have a large fridge to store all the beer i'll buy for us to drink?

Thanks guys.
I actually bought this one from an old local family. They moved their mother out recently and put it up on the market to support her. They couldn't be happier actually, which I personally enjoy.
It needs work. I mentioned in the other thread that I'll be taking some pics/vids to show you guys.
I hear you on the rent thing Seth. I was living in Baton Rouge, near LSU, for about two years in an apartment. No utilities coverage, 450 a month (900 total). I had to drive out to work every day, it was pretty miserable, but it was the cheapest place around. I found this place, got a good banker and a nice interest rate. Now I'm going to be paying 650 a month (sans utilities, including taxes and insurance) for a place I'll eventually own.
Couldn't be happier with the situation.

Congrats Dunker. I have yet to take the plunge on a home. I have debated for years but have yet to do it.

Grats on becoming a homeowner.
I hope to join the club next year. Prices wont increase but I hope interest rates stay super low till then.
I hate paying my 800/mo for rent. Especially when I know that the mortgage+tax payment for a similar house that I'm renting would run me no more than 500/mo. Rent prices are inflated relative to house prices.
