Would you buy an old school but modernized FF?

What I mean is theyve been running on this star wars type feel, least thats how i feel with it....for a handful of years now. And im just curious if people would be into a classic Final Fantasy that is more like FFIV, that is just a bit more fantasy/medival.

Now having some funky off the wall battle system is fine I guess, but as for stories im just kind of wanting it to release a Final Fantasy that doesnt have like high tech stuff in it, tvs and malls and all those sort of things you see in newer Final Fantasys. I think just even every now and then a throwback to a medieval style would be awesome.

What do you guys think?

They need to get back to basics and go from there, i think they are getting way to ahead of themselves with FF titles.

Hell, I'd buy 1+ all redone for today's graphics if I could. Yes, I would buy FF 1 redone.

Agreed. What used to make FF was story, music, interesting characters (party of story you could argue), and battle system.

Now it's cool graphics, battle system, and crazy abilities. I really do miss the old FF's that got you all caught up in the story, to the point where you wanted to advance that, and not the bottom-line stats on your character.

I would definitely buy into that style. Add to that Airships again, towns, and an open world, and I would probably drool a huge puddle on the floor.

I just had this conversation with my friend who is a diehard FF fan.

I think it was a natural progression to start going into space and space travel. Probably were running dry on entirely new concepts and space travel is an easy out.

Not a good excuse but I can see why.

If that went back to more of a medieval/crystals setup, that would be sexy. Final Fantasy Tactics springs to mind about how a medieval FF should be if the gameplay was like a traditional FF.

Long as it's FF1,2,3, or 4 Then i'll buy it. After 5 it went a little bit haywire.

This. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I’m a huge fan of sprite games. Back then was when you had the really gripping storylines, because when you only had to work with a few pixels as far as the graphics engine went, you could put the majority of work into character development and plot. It was a wonderful age of gaming. Some games can still get a good story out, but it’s nothing like it was back then, and I don’t think it ever will be, unless we go back to spriting.

Yeah, same here. I would definitely be up for an old school medieval style Final Fantasy.

they did, it was called Final Fantasy: 4 Heroes of Light and it was a pretty fun game.

If you're talking MAINLINE game. Then sure, I would. But FFXII was pretty close to old school anyway. I just wish that Matsuno had stuck with the nitty gritty Ivalice that Tactics used, and not the moogle and other weird animal fest that FFTA games used.
