I dont need beastly speakers since i do have a nice system elsewhere in terms of great speakers.
But my PC speakers are about as old as a leather shoe. I need to upgrade them, but i just want a kickass sound at a decent price. Nothing crazy but the best i can get around 70-100 id say.
I may spend more but not really lookin to go above 100.

I don't have any particular recommendations, but I am partial to Altec Lansing brand speakers. ^_^ I've had really good experiences with them. The only reason I don't have them set up now is because I don't have the space.

I'd go with a nice Logitech set with a subwoofer.
Mine is the X 230, 2 speakers and subwoofer. I paid $60 for them about 4 years ago and they're still as good as ever. They sound awesome. Don't think they make that specific model anymore, though. But I'm sure there are similar models today.
Sorry, I'm not an expert on PC sound, but I've been very happy with mine over the last few years.
