DJ Hero 2
You see Hero and you instantly think, Guitar, right? Well for me I think DJ. DJ Hero is the two year running “Best Soundtrack” game for every game awards. With stunning mixes from artist like Stevie wonder to Daft Punk, you’ll never know what to expect next. The series was going on a strong reign until Activision went too far as to canceling all music games for Call of Booty… They were even making a 3DS launch title with DJ Hero.
Story 6/10
Crazy enough, this game actually has a story! You play as a DJ that’s just starting to get a name for him(her)self; and you actually start it by mixing around about 4 songs(mixes) together hyping the crowd together. Soon after you face DJ Qbert, your Rival, and technically lose. After that you go on to become a star facing other DJs like Deadmau5, Rza, Tiesto, and David Guetta. You play set list of songs and get stars, to unlock more set list to play. With no actual words to explain the real story, you have to go around in the subtext. Honestly, It doesn’t have a story, story… You play set list to unlock songs and costumes, etc.
Visuals 10/10
If you go into Party play and don’t even hop in, just stare at the visuals, its awe striking. From the Strobe lights to the dancers, DJ, and even the crowd all dancing and mixing to the beat of the songs. You can even see as your tapping away and crossfading, your DJ crossfades. I think the best part is that, to the song, your DJ does certain things like holding their hands out, or jumping up and down, to even putting their heads on.
Sound 10/10
BEST SOUNDTRACK, 2 YEARS RUNNING…nuff said. What? I gotta say more? Alright fine? Yatter Yatter blah blah blah matter of fact, just listen to these 3 YouTube videos (all done by DDRFreak457, a buddy of mine).
Gameplay 10/10
We found out decades ago that the world loves mashing buttons. We found out a decade ago that the world loves moving their feet to hit buttons. We found out 5 years ago the world loves hitting buttons to living on a prayer. What changes this with DJ Hero, the world found out they love scratching. Come on now who hasn’t tried scratching a disc or even a Turkey slice like you were a DJ. Naturally that’s in this game like it was in the first one. You tap, crossfades, scratch, and freestyle to make mixes. If you’ve played DJ hero, or even Guitar Hero, you should feel just at home with this game.
Overall 9/10
This game is pure gold, really blows that we will never see it again. The music is so great I listen to the original song mixed in the game and the first thing that comes to my mind is “man…This isn’t a good as the DJ Hero version”. It would make you think that certain things weren’t even possible like mixing ABC with OPP. I think it sets the bar for music games and music in general. FSG needs to bring this series back with all they could possibly do.
