Resident Evil Series
How the hell did the zombies change?
Gameplay Super Changes!
What is the Future ahead?
Going hard or going home?
The Resident Evil Series as you may know it started as an Eerie creepy game where you kill zombies as the world slowly falls to the T-Virus. Being one of Capcom’s Prized Oldie Series, Of course it still goes strong. It even got a couple of good-bad movies across the 15 year old series (yes I said it 15, don’t you feel older?). Movies aren’t the only good-bad thing that came out from this series. Devil May Cry was originally suppose to be RE4, but the sheer difference in the style made it its own series (hint hint). Games, novels, sound dramas, and even action figures had been puked out by the series. With a holy crapper of 37 games on their belt, and half of those are coming out this year. Does the Resident Evil Series deserve the reboot or nothing to less no more? Well keep on reading because I’m answering that question now. Now as we go along I’ll be setting 2 ground rules.
- GAMES ONLY. No movies, novels or any of that, strictly games, because well, that’s were all of that is based off.
- The Final Verdict will be. Reboot, keep going, or Stop.
Now you all may know the story of Resident Evil and I don’t really want to go into context just because of spoilers, so I’m going to, dood it out. So there’s like this T-Virus or something and like it makes people into zombies and shit and like..like..like..in the first 3 main games they were like…slow and zombies…then they became like in 4, and 5, like Demons or something, cause like you shoot their head off and like a tentacle pops out and stuff and like they can carry weapons and uses machinery and like sometimes can run and like they all have a brain and can think. Soo like they aren’t zombies, just black and Russian people getting mass murdered by like…two white doods.
That brings me to Interest 1,
How the hell did the zombies change?
If you’ve played even Resident Evil Gaiden on the Game Boy, you know the zombies were slow and more like the living dead we know and overuse in today society. Yet even all main sources of Resident Evil Info (aka, Resident evil Wikia, both of them.) state “Zombies were the main enemies in the Resident Evil franchise” WERE…WERE…WERE!? Why the crackle barrel would you change the main enemy of a game that made zombies who they are?! Makes no sense honestly, but it does add a nice flavor to the game. Yet if you grew up with the old Residents Like me then playing Resident evil 5 killing crocodiles and fake excuses for Trapinchs aren’t what you want, especially if your black killing black people with a white guy in Africa…
Gameplay Super Changes!
The old resident evils made people crazy and flipped out by the weird camera controls, wait you had no camera controls. You entered a room or a hallway and the camera would change and stay that way until you leave that area, making it more eerie and scary (as the games were back then). Then Resident Evil 4 said, “No. Leon is in this game, change everything we know about the camera to this new 3rd person right on the shoulder camera”. Which worked out on it’s favor actually making the game more crazier and more action based, as 4 is known for, but some people still weren’t feeling it. After 5 came out, and the conservatries subdued, the camera started to kick in, as a bad idea. This allowed for better aiming, but with the aiming you still couldn’t move which with the new more action based resident evils, caused more problems. Capcom’s, being the great company that listens to its fans knew what to do with it. Besides adding Easter eggs to change the camera back to the old days, they decided, 15 years of no moving and aiming, time for a change. (See the above Video) With Mercenaries 3D, and Operation Outbreak, you can aim and shoot, and better multiplayer. This is all in favor for Resident Evil, makes it seem more helpful imo. I can tell you how many times I’ve died trying to aim and run, only to be killed off by a zombie croc.
What is the Future ahead?
There are many hidden great things about Resident Evil that makes me proud to say I love the series. Yet hitting 15 years I must applaud Capcom for still making the series, great. When everyone else was hopping on the Zombie bandwagon, Capcom stepped off because its clusterphobic. The Future of Resident evil is a great one. (See above Video) with the 15th anniversary Capcom is making sure that they keep the series great, Code Veronica and 4 is coming to PSN and XBLA this summer and Mercenaries 3D is going to be a hit on the 3DS. Operation Raccoon City is going to be a Masterpiece. The game has players taking the role of one of the members of a USS clean up crew. Alongside a single player mode, the game will also offer a 4 player co-operative mode as the player experiences the events of the game. Operation Raccoon City will allow the player to make decisions that could have major repercussions on series canon, such as causing the death of Leon S. Kennedy during the course of the game. A multiplayer mode is confirmed, which pits the USS against the Government Spec Ops, with the latter looking to uncover the situation Umbrella is attempting to hide. And that’s just the beginning.
REBOOT
Oh wait, THEY ALREADY ARE
Yeah you heard it, around even 2 years Capcom gotta make the games better and better and better. cough cough Street fighter. Capcom stated that if they do 6, it will be an complete reboot of the series, which is exactly what this series needs. Its fun, addicting, and gripping, and of course though, like all games, it has flaws, but those flaws get fixed, cause that’s what Capcom does! I love every single game, and i will be a fan until the end of time.
