Local guy from my hometown has a movie rental/used game store. He buys and sells tons of game from atari to current gen. I've done a lot of good deals with him in the past and I really like buying from him every time I go back home for a visit.
Well, last time we were in town, which was early May, my husband went to the store while I was upgrading my phone next door. He notices some GBA games in the box for decent prices and is surprised. Then he looks closer and noted that they're pirated. Key things about them: The boxes were this glossy, almost laminated look, the "manuals" were like 4-6 pages long, the smaller print on the boxes and carts is low quality and blurred, and the biggest thing is that in the carts, above the pins, legit copies say Nintendo and pirated copies don't. So he tells the guy they're pirated and asks if he knew that. The owner acts surprised by it and says he just bought the games in bulk, so my husband asked him if the boxes came shipped to him all flattened. He said no. Then my husband gets to go in the back of the store, where he then notices a stack of flattened GBA boxes. The games included Mario advance 1 and 3, Castlevania double pack, Donkey Kong Country Advance 3, Final Fantasy VI advance, and most all of the Pokemon GBA games.
Well, I was in the store today by myself and I see the same pirated shit. Plus games that weren't there last time. He's still selling them for anywhere from $20-30, as new. I also noticed some pirated DS games that were being sold as new, such as Mario and Luigi.
My point in all of this is, I want to turn him in or something. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt the first time, and hoped once he had confirmation they were bootlegged, he'd do the right thing and stop selling them. He's a pretty good guy and I don't wanna see him lose his business or anything. But at the same time, I'm extremely pissed that he's selling this stuff he knows is pirated and making a large profit off of it. And if he didn't know before, he damn sure knows now. So I want to report this, but really don't know how to go about it. I could report him to Nintendo, but I dunno if they'd make the effort to look into it since he's just once small little place. At the same time, it's shit that the guy is running a formal business and doing something so damn illegal and scamming people. Is there any other route I could take other than just contacting Nintendo? I'd figure this is a big deal and all, so there should be some other place I could report it to?
Thoughts/advice?
