Yeah, it was down for me too last night. Sony's saying it may be down for a day or two while they try to figure out what's goin' on.

I remember the whole clock/date fiasco that made people lose trophies, save files etc about a year ago and the PS3 board on IGN went nuclear. Good times....

Hopefully whatever the cause of this is fixes the fact that auto sign in hasn't been working for a week.

I'm very curious to know who is doing this. I'd think Sony would have it back up, but I suppose it is a weekend, so many of their employees are out.

It's down due to "External Intrusion" aka hackers. News link. Sony pissed off someone, apparently.

AKA paranoia that it is hackers. Anom isn't saying they did it, because they would say if they had.

Why is it silly to think that they didn't? There is no evidence to what the cause is. None at all. So all you guys are doing is making guesses. I'm sorry, I just don't subscribe to the notion that a guess is a fact.

I am not calling my guess fact. All I am saying is hackers are not trustworthy. The notion that Anon came out and said they didn't do it doesn't blow my skirt up. They as collective may of not but some of their "members" may have banned together to take the attack further.

www.joystiq.com/2011/04/25/rumor-rebug-custom-firmware-enabled-free-psn-downloads-for/According to PSX-Scene former moderator, "chesh," the now six-day-long PlayStation Network outage is the result of a particularly exploitative custom firmware (CFW) modification. In a post on Reddit, chesh claims that a CFW known as "Codename: Rebug" had given its users the ability to log into PSN as if they were doing so from a developer console (or "debug unit").
As a result, chesh contends, this same exploit allowed its users to add funds from "dummy" credit card accounts into their PSN wallets, ostensibly giving them the ability to "unlock" (read: steal) PlayStation Store content. Joystiq's research into the purported exploit has turned up multiple tutorials detailing the process, which appears alarmingly easy to execute on consoles running the Rebug CFW.
The hack does not allow its users to access the credit card or other personal information of PSN users, chesh adds. Nevertheless, as we reported earlier today, Sony is working to rule out information theft as part of its investigation during the maintenance outage in which the company is also implementing new security measures.
Sony has not yet responded to our request for comment on this story.

When stuff like this happens, I always blame the victims too. It's more fun that way.

Do they mean passwords for PSN network or passwords for everything related to the PSN network? Such as the email thats attached to the account?
Its impossible to change the PSN password now, right? since the PSN service is down.

Do they mean passwords for PSN network or passwords for everything related to the PSN network? Such as the email thats attached to the account? Its impossible to change the PSN password now, right? since the PSN service is down. If the email attached to your PSN account has the same password as your PSN account, I think that's what they mean, since you can't change your actual PSN password right now. If it's not, it's probably a good idea to change it anyway. Also, I think you're more at risk if you actually purchased anything on PSN. Sony was sending out emails offering to everyone provided names and contact information for the three major U.S. credit bureaus. I didn't receive any emails even though I have a PSN account. I'm guessing it's because I have never purchased anything on PSN.
