FF7 was my first RPG, but I gotta say the one that really dragged me into rpg's was Valkyrie Profile. That's still my favorite PS1 game.

Original Final Fantasy. Picked it up at a pawn shop when I was a kid because the cart had a Sword and Axe on the cover and the game said Fantasy and 5 year old me was all "SWORDS AND AXES ARE COOL. FANTASY STUFF IS AWESOME THIS IS COOL SHIT" and I bought it but couldn't play it for about a week because we were on vacation at the time. So I sat around a lot just staring at the game I could not play that was going to be so amazing in my eyes.
It was, and to this day I've played every mainline FF game since and made it that Square games were pretty much the only games we played on the SNES.

Bard's Tale 2 I'd say... used to play it with my older brother on Commodore 64, back before dirt and electricity and all that.

When i saw my older brother playing FF1 when i was like 12. I wondered if other companies made games like this and it was my favorite genre for about 10-12 years. I kind f grew out of it after i realized they were basically the same thing over and over though. I really want to be interested in a JRPG again.
