There was a time i would say hell no, but i tell ya what for as many amazing games that i have played and still have to play on my handhelds i think i could actually make it my MAIN gaming source. Now, will i ever do that..hell no but if i ever had too i think id be 100% content. I love my consoles but i do find myself just blown away by handheld games these days and the depth many of them have. What about you guys? Im going to bet some already do this, but figured it would still be a fun topic

Great topic Seth!
This is a question I've been dealing with for the past couple of months. I feel like that the DS and PSP library are more than adequate to handle the majority of my gaming needs. As an RPG fan, handhelds have really cornered the market for this genre. The ability to pick up and play is just perfect for RPGs. The problem for me is that I've invested so much time, money, etc. into my console gaming now, that completely switching to one or the other doesn't seem productive.
Looking toward the future, I see myself continuing this trend with attempting to fairly split my time between handhelds and consoles.

In the same boat haines, its like ive invested so much i dont think i could drop the other gaming avenues but man i have a rough time as is playing my games...i just know that handhelds tempt me big time to pick up and play more times than naught, rpgs especially like you said are phenomenal on handhelds.

Handhelds are great because you can play anywhere and make use of any dead time waiting in line at the grocery store, commuting to work etc. However there are some games like Dance Central and other motion control games that can only be played on console. Also consoles have a much bigger hd screen and things look prettier. Although PS Vita looks really pretty and is a hand held. Supposedly it can display 720p if you hook it up to a hd tv so things are blurring now.

No. I prefer to play on a big screen, with a controller in my hands, and good online capabilities. Yeah, i need FIFA every year and a good online service But seriously, i could not switch completely. I have both a PSP and a DS, and i play much more on my Xbox360. At least for me, that would be impossible.

As much as I love my PSP and DS, I could never give up consoles as my main gaming hardware. I love playing games on my HDTV with my speakers blasting.

handheld my ONLY option? No way I could do that, I do the vast majority of my gaming on the PC/consoles. I do love my PSP/DS though....

Hell no!! In fact my DS and PSPGo have been collecting dust over these few months. I just prefer my controllers and my big screen TV. I remember trying to play one of the GTAs on the PSP and I hated it. The only games I like on my handhelds are games like Field Commanders and Advanced Wars.

Handhelds can never be my main gaming machine but they will always be part of may gaming hobby. I started back in the early 70s with the "blip" football game. . Love my Nomad and it still gets play almost every day while I'm on the throne. Lol I have pretty much every handheld released the last 25 years. Love em. My PsP 2000 is my fav though. Lovemthe games on that thing.

I couldn't live on just hand-held gaming but it gets most of my attention nowadays...I would say that my ratio is 70-30 with my PSP getting 70% of my time. I absolutely love my PSP.
Now, with games like Skyirm, Mass Effect 3 and Gears of War 3 coming out the focus my sing around LOL...Plus I gotta give my 46 inch Tv some love.

When I first seen this topic I laughed it off thinking there's no way I could leave the big screen tv for a handheld. But now I think about it I'm going back to school next month, and will be working full time. I can see myself spending a lot more time with the DS.

No, I couldn't do it. There are some series' I really love that probably wouldn't translate well to handhelds. Final Fantasy, Gears of War, Skyrim, Mass Effect, etc.
Although, if a 3DS can run Tales of the Abyss, it's not that far off for rpgs.

Oh yeah. I could do it easily. I still play a bit of console games. But handhelds have been eating up the majority of my time thanks to being able to play them at work. But I've found I've enjoyed the handheld games more than I have console games these days.
Would I want to have handhelds as my only systems? No. Would I complain if they were the only game in town? Nope.

I don't think I'd ever actually do it, but I could if I wanted to, plenty of games to play on handhelds as well, but not like I'd ever want to abandon my consoles.

Yea I couldn't abandon consoles either but I think it's just worth noting how good the handheld library is.

Y'know? I *might* be able to go handheld-only. It's what I play most of the time, anyway.

I've actually tried going this route before with my DS and PSP, but I kept going back to the xbox. So, I'm guessing that unless Microsoft makes their own handheld I won't be able to play only handheld games. Although, if I could still have my pc games it's got a stronger possibility.

I never got into handhelds after my Gameboy and GameGear. How do they shape up now?
But to answer the topic question: No. I require some diversity in my gaming. Luckily the PC + PS3 combo are enough to satisfy this, but I couldn't just play through one medium.

I can't do handheld gaming. Any game boy I ever owned (have the DS lite now) ends up collecting dust. I play them ONLY when traveling..so it's just not worth it. I'm better off just getting a smart phone.

I am console through and through. But there are a ton of good RPGs out there on handhelds I have been neglecting because I just don't have the time to play them all with the backlog of console games I currently own.

Right now handhelds are my single gaming choice. I've got a 7-week old baby boy and haven't had time for any of my consoles.
My 3DS is getting lots of play time. Aren't a whole lotta games for it yet, so i've also been checking out the extensive DS library. Chrono Trigger arrives in the mail today...yay!
Also my wife just got an iPad which i'm enjoying far more than I thought I would.
