Seemed really cool but then afterwards, I started feeling a bit nauseous. Is that weird? At $250, it's still too high for me to consider, but I was planning on getting one when the price drops. Now I'm not so sure.

It's not weird. Might take some time to get used to. You can also adjust the level of 3D with the slider on the side. I personally don't play with it on. It feels more of a hindrance to me. I mostly got it for the new Resident Evil game, which looks fantastic! I don't need 3D.

Yes, the 3D is an effect, but that's about it. So far it really hasn't had any gameplay relevance. Maybe in future games but I doubt even then, since there is the option to turn off 3D.

I personally haven't felt sick after playing, but different people react differently to the polarizing effect the screens give in order to pull off the 3D look. Maybe I'm kind of immune to it due to my time with the Virtual Boy back in the day? lol.
In any case, you can play with the 3D off of course. Or maybe you just need to spend some time with it at home so you can get used to it.

I can't play Pilot Wings with the 3D turned all the way up. Otherwise, things are a little funky at first, but you adjust after a bit. I sure the hell can't play it in the car, though.

Yeah, the 3D has to be in a sweet spot, so it may mean holding the 3DS a certain length away or at a certain angle that you may not be able to when it's on display. And when I first got it, I had trouble with it on full 3D so I had the slider set about halfway. After a while, I got used to it, and now I play most of the time with the 3D all the way up.
