Thanks man. The way I see it, cds are dead and tapes have been dead for obviously sometime. Vinyl is the only format still worth anything. I love music and like collecting my favorite albums and vinyl is really the best (only) way to do that.
The biggest purchase was that Flaming Lips boxset you see in the middle. It set me back about $125. It's limited though so it should be worth a pretty penny someday.

What is record store day? And CDs aren't dead. Every artist that I listen to still release their albums on CD.

Record Store Day is an internationally celebrated day observed the third Saturday of April each year. Its purpose is to celebrate the art of music. The day brings together fans, artists, and the over 700 independently owned record stores in the United States, along with hundreds of independent record stores across the world.
Record Store Day was officially founded in 2007 and is now celebrated globally with hundreds of recording and other artists participating in the day by making special appearances, performances, meet and greets with their fans, the holding of art exhibits, and the issuing of special vinyl and CD releases along with other promotional products to mark the occasion.
In a nutshell, lots of bands release limited edition lps, or some exclusive record store eps for the occasion. Which are cool to collect if you like the band or just a collector. It's around easter so I equate it with this sort of easter egg mentality. You wanna frequent a bunch of stores and see what they got. It's fun.
It's purpose is to get people out and support the local stores that have survived in the face of the accessibility of itunes and the internet age. Which is truly astonishing when you consider that the big chains like Tower Records have all failed and gone bankrupt.
You say cds are not dead but when was the last time you went and bought one? I can't tell you myself. And I used to buy at least 2 a month. I just buy vinyl now.

I just bought the new Within Temptation CD from Best Buy, but I buy CDs online all of the time. Like I said, every artist that I listen to still release their stuff on CD.

That's awesome man. I'm glad to hear the format is still alive then. I just don't know anyone that buys CD's anymore, myself included. I tend to just get the mp3's and buy the vinyl if I really like the album.

I consider CDs to be my master copies of albums. I copy them to my computer, but I like to own physical copies of albums with artwork and booklet. I've been collecting CDs since the 80s, and I'm not going to stop until they are no longer an option.

Yeah, I agree that I also like to own physical copies. Which is why I jumped ship from cd's to vinyl a few years ago. Something fun about playing records too that you just don't get from itunes.

Sometimes the booklets have the lyrics and I like that because then I don't have to look them up on the internet (where they might be wrong). I also liked getting CDs to listen to in my car because I have an old stock stereo that played CDs but didn't have an aux input for an mp3 player. Now it won't play CDs but when I replace it, I'll probably get one that can still play CDs.
