In america that is?
Like i told my wife, it takes someone younger to set the trends so that any younger audience can see them and go "wow if they think thats cool, then i will too"...and seeing a kid that can blow his pipes like a true metal artist on a stage like American Idol is exciting.
Now ive no lack of metal choices, but id love to see america somehow embrace true metal like this. To hear a metal artist that belt it out like he has on the show is just exciting.

We'll I haven't seen any of American Idol except just looking up now who Durbin is, but I don't really see how this would change anything really. I wouldn't say Idol introduces new music trends, the people watching just tend to follow the personalities. Sure some kids might go "Oh, that song was cool, I might go download some Judas Priest." but I don't think it would be culture changing.
I'd honestly say you could get the Idol winner to record an album of Brutal Truth covers and it would still sell a million, but grindcore wouldn't get any more popular. [/cynicism...sorry Conan]
