Great sales for a really good game. Good for them The more they can sell the better! Newer games built for us.

I never expected the sales to do so well. I never even heard of Portal until this past week actually.

I didnt play Portal 1 as i really didnt see the appeal. Are these games REALLY that good? Id kind of like to try it but im short on fundage and wouldnt want to rent or trade for Portal 2 if it wasnt that great.
What makes these games so good?

I just ordered Portal 2 today after seeing the reviews. I really enjoyed 1 because it was such a different experience. It's a thinking FPS. Also the game was loaded with sarcastic humor. From the reviews I've read, it looks like that will be consistent in the sequel.

I didnt play Portal 1 as i really didnt see the appeal. Are these games REALLY that good? Id kind of like to try it but im short on fundage and wouldnt want to rent or trade for Portal 2 if it wasnt that great. What makes these games so good? Have you played Half-Life? It's the mood of Half-Life intertwined with dark humor and puzzle solving. Portal 2 is even more amazing than Portal 1 in presentation, atmosphere, mood. Valve basically took Portal 1 and fully injected it with its very own Half-Life DNA/philosophy. They created a game which keeps you in the first person view the entire time, even through cut scenes, and it simply draws you in. Scripted events happen and the world changes dynamically pretty drastically all the time. And they tell you a damn good story. Scratch that. They don't tell you the story, the make you experience the story. You find things out through the environment and what's happening all around you. They do not rely on force feeding you information. It's basically the same philosophy as the Half-Life games. Portal 1 also did it, but Portal 2 took it to an entirely deeper level. The second big pillar as to why these games are great is the meat and potatoes: The Portal gun and its gameplay mechanics. To proceed you have to use your noggin. Probably the best part is that the Portals created basically give you a whole other dimension to work and think with. In other games you'll usually have up to four dimensions: the 3D space and then the timing. With Portals, the 3D space is basically twisted, making it feel deeper, and your timing has correlate with it. So you get a lot of options and it's simply a cool experience. Portal 1's single player does a better job than Portal 2's single player in this regard, but Portal 2 has co-op and will probably have map packs and DLC to expand upon the puzzle solving. Also on Steam there is a demo "Portal: The First Slice". Most PCs should be able to run the game. You'd have to have Intel integrated graphics to not be able to run the game, basically. It will give you a taste of what to expect in terms of pure gameplay.
