I will go with Megadeth. One of my first favorite bands. Metallica was awesome back in the day as well but considering what they did after Black I give them a few minuses. That coupled with the fact that Lars and Hetfield are pretty much douches.

Rust In Peace is the only Megadeth CD I really listened to and that doesn't even come close to a lot of Metallica CD's for me. If you have some other Megadeth songs that I should listen to before considering my vote final, I'd be happy to give them some playtime. Otherwise, this isn't even close. Load and Reload, not terrible. There were some awesome songs to be had from them. St. Anger = awful. Death Magnetic is a throw back to the early days that I think shouldn't be over looked when considering the Metallica timeline. I would actually put it right before the Black album if I didn't know any better.
PS. Add Dream Theater in the mix and I'd have a hard time voting.

Megadeth. Why? Because Metallica told Dave he would never make a band that would be on the top like them. And well.. he proved them wrong.. by a long shot.

I feel Metallica has put out the better material even though it was all early albums, but i feel Megadeth is the more true to roots metal band since they havent wavered at all.

Megadeth for me. Dave is one of the best out there...maybe not vocally anymore, but when he play guitar, man, that's a sight to see. One of the best in the business and his albums just keep getting better and better. Endgame ranks up there with one of this best albums if you ask me. United Abomination was ok (just didn't catch like System has Failed did to me), but still good.

I'm a Megadeth man by default since it was the first of the two that I listened to. I think Rust In Peace and Peace Sells are as good as anything Metallica has done. Ride the Lightning is my favourite Metallica album.

Honestly for me, all the kick ass music Megadeth has done still can't live up to RtL-AJFA. Those 3 albums are just great thrash metal. Mustaine is a much better musician than Kirk, but his rhythm riffs are not as good as Hetfields.
Also, It's hard to listen to Megadeth without Marty Friedman. He was part of the golden era.
Saw them both recently at the Big 4 show and Megadeth is definitely great live, but Metallica still gave off an awesome energy that Megadeth just can't produce, in my opinion.

That's the only thing that Metallica has for them is that put on a good show even though their music hasn't quite been the same. Don't get me wrong, I actually like Death Magnetic, but if you compare that to The System Has Failed, Endgame, or United Abominations from Megadeth, it doesn't compare. By saying that, Megadeth put out 3 albums to Metallica's one in the past 7 years (i believe The System Has Failed came out in '04...could be wrong). Endgame was an EXCELLENT album.
