Grand Theft Auto V getting 'finishing touches' ahead of 2012 release? The new info comes from unnamed sources talking to GameSpot, who claim that the game is not only well into development but is already having the final touches applied to it - including a range of mini-games. Given the amount of polish Rockstar Games like to apply to their games those final touches are likely to be pretty substantial, but apart from describing the game's scale as 'vast' no hint was given as to its setting. The most recent rumours seemed to suggest some sort of parody of Hollywood, but despite a small amount of circumstantial evidence this rumour has never seemed to make much sense given the small size of the game world that would imply. Not to mention the fact that L.A. Noire and San Andreas already have similar settings. Officially Rockstar hasn't even announced a new game, although for some time analysts have been pegging a post-March 2012 release. April seems to have become a favourite for Rockstar's major releases lately - from Grand Theft Auto IV to Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire - but that's no guarantee of anything. Rockstar always likes to play things close to their chest, so we'd be surprised if you heard much, or indeed anything, official until after the release of Max Payne 3 (assuming it's still on course for this Christmas).

The mini games definitely need a lot of work. Bowling, darts, and pool just felt very clunky.

We were talking about how much the GTA series has changed at work today. We used to play them in vo-tech when I was in high school. Nobody know who Rockstar was, the graphics were horrid even for the time, but it was still a blast to play. The complete opposite now. They're beautiful games that bore me to tears.

I wonder if Rockstar will implement Team Bondi's facial tech into GTAV in some way?

I hope the game is more in the realm of how RDR played out...more structured and focused. I don't want to go on dates, I don't want 100 characters in the game and they need to scale the size of the city down to allow for more detail and a better focused story.
They need to have a lot of the fun mini-games the past GTA's had and just make it more FUN.
With that being said I still did like GTA IV a lot but it had many flaws and dragged on for too long.
IMO…I think they should have waited to release the new GTA on the next consoles but oh well. This gen seems like it will never end and I am getting bored with it.

I don't have the time to game anymore that I used. I finished Red Dead because it was awesome through out. Varied missions and fun stuff going on. GTA IV lost me once I got to Manhattan. Going here and killing this guy just got too old. I hope that they do well with this one.

I don't want to go lift weights. I don't want go go eat. I want to steal cars, do missions for gangsters, and kill people. All while making money. That's it. As far as this gen lasting forever. I'm not sure about recent news, but about a year ago I read that there was a vast amount of untapped gaming power potential in this generation of consoles. They may have pushed past that over this past year, I'm not sure, there are some newer games I haven't played yet.

^^^ Well games like Skyrim & Bioshock Infinite will max the damn 360 out, period.
The console will have been out 7 years when Bioshock is released and after that I am SOOOOO ready for the next console.
I want to be blown away again like I was playing Oblivion etc. No game this gen will blow me away graphically.

This generation was always touted to have a lifespan of about ten years, with previous gens averaging 5 yrs. However, I saw an article after E3 I think it was crytek said they were working on a game for the xbox "720" and hinted at some footage or something or other at next years E3. Could probably find it out if anyone didn't see it.
I'm in no rush to get to the next gen, I mean kinect hasn't even got going yet, I'm still waiting to see what they do with that bit of kit, HD and 3D is covered which is as up to date as we got right now.
Also so many developers think it's damn expensive to make a game for generation as it is and if get any bigger or more technically advanced then a lot of devs would struggle. EA, UBI, activision and rockstar are probably some of the few who could sustain making games at this point for the next gen

I have no backlog like many of you seem to have. I literally play NBA 2K11 and Black Ops now and will not play a game until fall. I don't see many great games on the horizon other than a handful at best that are worthy of my attention and will wow me.

Crytek confirmed the 720 rumor was false.
I'm thinking possibly 2014 for the 720, but I guess 2013 is possible.
If you don't have a backlog you really oughta go back and look through some older games, There are way too many great games to play through them all. I think you simply aren't giving enough games a chance. Either that or you are just playing 360. 360 exclusives just don't click for me the way PS3 exclusives do. Then there's some great PC stuff out there too.
Just seems like you either like very few games or you have some too high standards (which you play BLOPS so the latter can't be the case haha).

^^^ agree with these guys too there are so many games that I just haven't had time for that'd I'd love to play but I've just had to move on. Mass effects, oblivions, fallout new vegas etc and I've still got games like saints row and crackdown which I've had since early 2007 an just haven't had time to play. I just honestly can't see me getting clear of my backlog as for every game I finish another 3-4 good games come out, IMO anyhow

If GTA V was coming out next spring, I'm pretty sure we would have seen a teaser video or screenshots at E3. I'm not getting my hopes up.

But rockstar are one of the only companies these days that are very good at keeping secrets. Without delving to deep into it I can't really remember off the top of my head what they revealed at the previous E3's. I pretty sure there was nothing last year about LA noire nor red dead the year before that :-\

I think I remember seeing images from RDR back at the start of this generation. Now granted, they don't have to do anything to promote a new GTA... they could put it on shelves tomorrow and it would sell in the millions. But I still think they'd throw out a little bit of teaser hype a year or so in advance. I would love to be wrong though.

I will buy it. Gta4 was good, even though some parts got annoying.
What I like is how so many developers don't announce big games anymore until close to release, thus making the wait less. Kudos for that.

I play and beat every great game that is released minus a few. I basically like all genres except JRPG's so I played a lot of games. I own a PS3 as well and played and beat the exclusives. I am not too picky really.
