We've had the questions: 1. What type of games do you like? 2. Favorite Game Etc.
Here's the clincher, and sometimes you might not like the answer, why do you game?
My reason's are pretty simple:
1. It's something I've known for a long time. 2. Thrill of the hunt, I'm always looking for that game I just love. 3. Besides reading, it's the only good time filler/waster. 4. Due to #1, I just don't think I'll ever be rid of gaming. In some way, shape, or form, I'll always need 3-4 unplayed titles on my shelf. It's just... habit.

I game because my dad and i went to dave and busters one time, and we were playing the First Mortal Kombat in there, and i just couldn't get off it. From like a young age i've always decided i want to program video games, or at least make music for the games, i just want to do something with the video games.

It's a fun hobby. I don't think there's any other reason why I game other than the fact that it makes me happy. The moment it stops being fun is the day I quit and move on to something else.

Because it's fun. And it's something my husband and I can do together and enjoy. He likes indoor stuff mostly, working on PCs, gaming, etc. But I like a lot of outdoorsy stuff, like hunting, sports, riding horses, etc. But gaming is where we really meet, as far as hobbies go. We game together, collect stuff together. It's fun to go out to these retro shops and egg each other on to buy old stuff.

I game to escape from my meaningless existence in this stupid world. Life sucks, but at least in video games I'm awesome.
I'm kidding.
I game because it's a fun hobby, and I've met quite a few good people through gaming. I've been a gamer since I was a wee lad, so it's kind of a habit.

Main reason: It makes me happy. Longer Reason: I've been gaming since I got my first Atari back in 1979. It is a part of my existence now. I cannot imagine not having it my life anymore. It helps that gaming keeps evolving. As I get more sophisticated, so do the games.

I use gaming as a distraction for my mind. When I play games I am not thinking about anything else and I become completely absorbed with the game world, or if I'm gaming online I become completely absorbed with the competitive nature.

For me its because its simply the first thing i came to know in life, at about 2 or so i was handed an atari and all i know is ever since i been hooked on games. I remember playing Master System until my thumbs hurt, thats how long its been since ive had sore thumb issues hah, and ive simply never stopped.
I enjoy the worlds that are created, i think the hunt as said Dunker, the music, the feel, just the enjoyment of delving into a new game world is as exciting as ever.

Like people that escape while reading books, I game because I want to be pulled into another world or reality and do things that aren't possible in real life or missed the chances to do it (like play pro baseball ). Where else can you be play as a young hero traveling through time to save the world (Chrono Trigger) or master the playing calling of football in online leagues against countless others (ESPN NFL 2K5) or simply get engrossed in a world that's so lush, alive, and open to millions of players (World of Warcraft / Rift / Any MMO for that matter). Or even take your imagination further in wanting to be a plummer and save princesses. The best part is that after all these years of playing, I finally bit the bullet and went back to school to learn how to create these bundles of joy. As Ren and Stimpy used to say, HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY!!!! Bet you haven't heard that in years

Some people enjoy regular sports/games. Some people enjoy watching videos. Some people enjoy listening to music. Some people enjoy reading. Some people enjoy electronics.
And then some people, like me, enjoy all of the above which is what video games offer!

I had to think about this pretty deeply once when somebody said that I and other gamers like me are like drug addicts (a very uninformed comment if I do say), to which I responded that drug addicts go to drugs because of a urge to get that same feeling over and over again, and that I and many other gamers go to gaming for the opposite reason; it's one of the most varied and constantly changing mediums I've ever encountered.
I, on a monthly basis, go through games of all different genres and experience all sorts of different types of interactive entertainment, that's what I love about the medium. There seems to be a near-limitless amount of worlds and universes I can go to and experience a totally different world, with different people, different emotions, and overall a totally unique experience.
Movies may have a similiar draw, but you can't go into movies and become the characters, you aren't the one trying to save your son like in Heavy Rain, or trying anxiously to climb up a tipping train over a cliff in Uncharted 2, the medium seems to bring that variety in experience to a whole new level
That's why I game.

Hmmm. I game for a couple of reasons that go back to who I am as a person and was as a child. Growing up I was an avid reader with an active imagination. I would DEVOUR encyclopedias specifically entries about animals, mythology and history. I would then go outside and pretend to be on safari with my friends or slaying dragons or kung fu kicking each other after watching a movie. I loved comic books and movies as well and loved sports particularly basketball, boxing and karate.
Videogames allow me to do all of this things in an active way and allow me to participate in adventures I would otherwise never be able to do. They are an ACTIVE form of entertainment as opposed to movies, comics and books (all things that I love as well) and throw me RIGHT into the action. That's why I prefer games that have actual GAMEPLAY and are not pseudo movies or novels.
