This game looks awesome but it's been getting mediocre reviews. If anyone is playing the game let me know if it's worth a buy or not. Also, I've never played the first game if it's important to the story.

Great game. I was iffy at first but the more i play the more i want to play. The game has surprisingly high production all around and good lord does it look good.
Nothing complicated about the game play but its what its supposed to be...fun. Combos and upgradable weapons almost never go wrong with me and its done right in this game (ie not overwhelming with gobs of upgrade trees).
I would DEFINITELY say try it, and for me most of the reviews are totally wrong..its like they only tried the first 1-2 stages out of obligation and wrote it off as average because it does take about an hour or so to really get into. About the time you start getting new weapons is about the time it starts being addictive.

"Don't tempt me frodo!" The production values look amazing, I so need to play this.

I generally don't bother with reviews, since most seem paid off when terrible games get high scores and good games that don't pay them off get lower scores (in comparison to the paid reviews).

Well I've been playing it and I'm having fun with it. I don't think it's really necessary to have played the original game, but the PS3 and Xbox versions did come with a code to download it for free if you want to check it out (not sure about the PC version). They improved the graphics and everything; but I haven't checked it out since I beat it back when it was new.

The game has a few gameplay related warts an bugs, but overall it is enjoyable. Part of the reason to keep playing is to find out what insanity will happen next.
Most of the dislike is over the repetitive platforming parts of the game.
The free bonus of the original Alice is nice too. Even, though, it has not aged well. The controls on that one feel much more sloppy than I remember. Still, worth a look.

This thread has been helpful. I really think I would like to pick up this title. I think I will go watch a couple gameplay vids to get a feel for the controls and what not.

My experience with Alice: Madness Returns has been pretty positive.
This is game is a platformer through and through with some combat added to the mix. The visuals look great, though there is some screen-tearing throughout the game.
I feel this game and Shadows of the Damned has been unfairly forgotten by EA marketing. Both have been solid experiences in my opinion.

This game has been on my radar as well as my wife's. She absolutely hated the Alice story because it was such a disturbing story written by a man on some sort of mind altering chemicals. However, if anyone hasn't seen it, the Alice that was on SyFy was an absolutely great version of the classic kids tale.
Long story short, since that movie, she has been in to the Alice psychoticness and this game is right up that alley. I keep seeing these mediocre reviews but I keep hearing these great gameplay reviews. Definitely a game I will pick up soon.
