I have seen some mixed responses on line for this. I know you lost the free games when you stop being a plus member but I always thought the games you buy at a discount you keep even when you stop being a paying member? Now I have seen some people say that is not true you do lose the games? I don't buy that so hopefully someone here can shed some light on this!!

Anything you pay anything for, even if it is $0.01, you get to keep regardless of maintaining your PS+ subscription. That goes for things like themes and avatars, etc. as well as the games.

Nacthenud is 100% right, I'm just going to pull the quote from the linked page for official reference
"PlayStation Plus subscribers will also be given exclusive PlayStation Store discounts each month that are above and beyond the current PSN Store discounts available to everyone. These discounts will range from 20% to 50%, and anything you buy with these is yours to keep and enjoy forever."

What's weird was that I got the Sam and max games for free when I signed up for PSN but I didn't renew, yet my Sam and max games still work.

I think the sam and max games were something different, though I'm not sure.
PS+ gives you some great stuff.
