Unauthorized payment in my Paypal account

Guys, i'm freaking out. Yesterday morning, i got an e-mail from Paypal notifying me i made a 1300 euro payment to someone (his/her name was shown), but i don't know that person, never made business with said person, nothing. Right after that, i got another e-mail from Paypal. This time, they limited my account, because they thought it was strange that such a big payment was made by me (and they are right). They tell me what to do if this was an unauthorized payment (which it is), but i can't do anything in their resolution center before the transaction appears in my transaction history. And at this moment, the transaction is still not there. The payment was made with my Visa card. Now the thing is, my Visa has a 300 euro limit. My bank don't let me go over the limit, so that money will never get to the destination (i think). Anyway, 24 hours passed, the transaction is not in my transaction history, so i can't do anything with it in Paypal. Should i call my bank and warn them of the situation? Tell them to cancel any 1300 euro movement if it appears? I'M FREAKING OUT!!!

Well, i called my bank right now, and they tell me that for now, they don't have any request from Paypal or anywhere else for a 1300 euros charge on my card. And checking my VISA card movements, there is no such movement. I don't understand this.

Wow dude that doesnt sound good...keep us posted on the situation, hopefully if its someone messing around it can be stopped before the money is gone, i would be freaking out too man...damn that sucks ;(

You did good in calling your bank Manny.

Stay on it and you should be OK.

As they didn't make a direct like with your Visa I don't think you are going to have to cancel it or anything.

Until now, no transaction appears in my paypal account and no transfer in my bank account.

And trying to contact Paypal is hard. I'm not in the US, so i can't contact them by phone, i have to send e-mail, but their contact center is confusing. Damn, i need them to remove the limit in my account. My Astraweb payment has been delayed for 3 days, but after that, i will lose my monthly price discount. Why won't more websites use google checkout? I would drop paypal instantly.

I will say this for ya bud, Paypal is really good with figuring this stuff out. I had a guy that i paid and they never sent my item, and paypal was right on top of it.

This is a different situation but im sure they will figure out, they are pretty decent overall from what i know and have seen.

I used the form they have on their website for unauthorized payments, and they had resolved my issue within 20 minutes of me submitting it.

Really? Wow, never had that kind of response from Paypal.

Kinikko: i really wanted to fill the form there, but they ask for the transaction ID. The thing is, i don't have a transaction ID because i have no new transactions in the transaction history. I just have the e-mails saying i paid 1300 euros to someone. And in the e-mails they don't give me the ID.

That's so weird. You're sure it's a real email? Every email I've gotten from Paypal regarding transactions has the ID in it. Plus the fact that it's not showing up anywhere in your pending transactions on your paypal account is really strange. I don't know man, sorry D: I feel your pain though.

Well, during my freak out moments, i didn't notice there was a link in the e-mail message that would lead me to a page with details, including transaction id. I'm so stupid. I filed a "unauthorized payment" form and sent it. Anyway, i was glad to see in the detailed information that the transfer status is marked as "denied". Now i know that the other person won't receive my money. I just hope they can remove my "limited account" status. I need to pay Astraweb.

Update: got an e-mail from Paypal:

Mr. Pacheco, an unauthorised transaction is a transaction sent from your
PayPal account without your permission.
I have reviewed your Paypal account and I can see that this transaction
was not completed because it was declined by your bank.

Your account is currently limited, because our security system detected
that someone else had tried to access your account. This limitation is
currently in the queue for review. I regret not being able to provide
you further information about it at the moment, however as soon as the
department review this they will contact you by email.

Now i'm relieved. No money to the filthy "hacker". Now Paypal, please remove the limits fast, please please please.
