Civilization games for me. Man this series intrigues me but i find myself starting up new games and sitting there just adding stuff to my little areas but i never fully grasp what the hell im doing. Or i should say i understand in a round about way what i need to do, i just dont know exactly how to go about doing it.
But the games look amazing, i wish it was a game i could just sink my teeth into and just dive right in but man i just find a wall stopping me.
Like when people say their turns eventually get to a few hours per turn i dont get that because i seem to just fly through the years in the game and i feel im missing a major aspect.
I wish someone could paint a picture of how to play these games in the most simplistic way possible. I know you can have several ways, to get to the moon i believe, to fight all the surrounding leaders i believe...
Are those the main goals, is it to just pick one and go for it?

Gears of War. I have several friends that love it, but I hate third person shooters. I played through the campaign and some MP of Gears 2 at a friend's house and I didn't care for it. I played a bit of the Gears 3 beta and while it was better than 2, I still can't see myself shelling out $60 for it. Not even $30. Don't know what it is, but I'm just not a fan.

Halo. I just dont have any interest in anything Halo related.
I played halo 2 with some friends doing the whole two xbox hookup thing. Also played 2 hrs or so in halo 3... but just cant play any more than that.
But lots of my friends go "ga ga" over it.

Metal Gear Solid. It gets so much acclaim, but I just coudn't get into it when I tried. Just not my thing, I guess.
There are other series I don't play and have no desire to: Halo, music games, Call of Duty, Gears of War, etc.

Call of Duty Zelda (I like them but I just can't get into them) Sports games (my cousin plays them all the time and it'd be cool to be able to play with him without wanting to stick my head in a meat grinder) God of War Uncharted

Metal Gear Solid
I recognize that it's a superb use of the video game medium and a social commentary on war...but the ludicrous plot is just too fucked-up even for me.

^Haha, well I thought MGS on playstation 1 was fantastic. Never could get into the rest due to the same reservations.
@seth, civilization games are like the pinnacle of gaming to me! The more you play, the more you understand and grasp what is going on. I can understand how it could be a little much for a lot of people though.

Rockstar games. This applies to practically all their open world games (LA Noire being an exception due to its uniqueness) I find their open worlds to lacking and their stories too bland and lacking fun. Since GTA3, RPGs have surpassed them in open world (the thing they still seem to cling to as some saving grace) and story, and their third person shooting is heavily surpassed by.... just about everyone else.

I guess Metal Gear and Resistance.
Resistance is the one that surprises me the most. I remember when I first got my PS3 I couldn't wait to play this game. I played it and really liked it at first but it never kept me. For some reason the game became more of a bore. I can't quite put my finger on it. I tried Resistance 2 and the same thing. I will try the third one but don't think much will change. I really just don't understand why Resistance won't grab me.

There isn't a single series out there that I wish I could get into. The way I look at it, if I can't get into a game there is clearly a reason for it. There is no sense in forcing the point and trying to like something that just isn't for me, I just pack up and move onto something that I will enjoy.
As for Civ Seth, you should try out Civilization Revolution on the consoles. It's a more simplistic take on the Civilization formula and is easier to learn. I've had a blast with the game.

Fable series. I played number one and adored it, but I don't have an xbox for number 2 and I heard number 3 was pretty bad.

Final Fantasy. There must be something that's good about these games but they just don't click with me.

Call of Dookie. Most of my friends that game a lot play CoD a lot. I just can't get into it though. It's just so damn stale and boring. I understand it's a well made game in many aspects but I guess modern weapons and tech just bore the shit out of me. I'd rather it be some medieval warfare or futuristic warfare or some kind of fantasy aspect to it. It's like Virtua Fighter to me. Sure it's a cool game and a lot of stuff is well designed but the setting and characters are just so fucking dull.

I wish I could get into Grand Theft Auto. I like sandbox games (I liked Crackdown, and I love Just Cause 2, and some others such as The Crystal Bearers), but I just haven't enjoyed what I've played of the GTA series.

Going back to the PS2 days, I always wanted to play the Xenosaga games but after putting a few hours into the first one, never actually figuring out what I was doing, and seeing more movie than anything, I lost interest.
Maybe now that I am older i should try again? Older as early 30's. Maybe I can grasp the concept of the game and get into the gameplay aspects better.
