I think it was pretty strong overall. The last couple E3s have been hit or miss for me, but i think this year had enough firepower to really have me excited for a bunch of things. What about you?

Didn't like the Microsoft conference, way to much focus on Kinect. Loved all the Vita and 3DS news though, very excited for the future of those two.

You know whats interesting is it seems that Nintendo is sort of like taking the approach of "well...we been there done that with motion controls, time to get serious again!"...and now you got MS trying with Kinect, its definitly like a turn of events.

Well, I only have a 360, so since I focused on the Microsoft conference I was pretty disappointed. I'm not about the Kinect so with only four non-kinect exclusives (Just 3 out this year) I was like, what the hey?

I enjoyed a lot of coverage, but overall this wasn't a particularly exciting E3 for me.
The Wii U was interesting to see reaction to the reveal from people who don't follow the game industry - a good friend of mine thought it was just a controller add-on for the existing Wii based off of the sizzle trailer. He didn't have any idea it was a whole new system. Telling.
I was initially buzzed by the Wii-U until I found out that only one tablet per system would kill most of the multi-player ideas I was excited for.

Loved E3 as always. The games had me the most excited. Mass Effect 3, Skyrim, SSX, and Kinect Sports 2 had me pretty pumped.

I don't pay attention to most of it, I just let the friends pick through it and link me the important bits.

Microsoft, I still couldn't care less about.

Nac, explain what you mean about one tablet per system...i didnt read that part yet or see it. What exactly does that mean ? 4 wiiremotes + 1 new controller can be played all together on the system. This E3 was boring and stupid. Most of the coverage i already knew most of the games, and Sony for sure stole the show this year. Vita is going to be a buy, but knowing how the PSP went ill wait till they make a slimmer version or something, then buy the first gen. Nintendo was interesting but still wasn't that good. The Wii U couldn't just been an Upgrade or something to the Wii, but why a whole new console. But still nintendo needs it. Microsoft was retarded, just straight retarded.

Nac, explain what you mean about one tablet per system...i didnt read that part yet or see it. What exactly does that mean ? As explained just above me, the current intention is for the Wii U to ship with a single new controller and that is it. Other players will use Wiimote, Nunchuk, Balance Board, Classic Controller, etc. They're talking about not even selling the new controller separately (guess you have to ship in a broken one for repair???). They're currently "considering" (and seeing if it would be possible) to use two controllers if a friend brought theirs over or possibly using a 3DS as another controller, but the current design is for only one of the new controllers in use per system.

I thought E3 was a complete mess. Worse one that I've seen in years. Nothing shocking, nothing made me go "OH MY GOD!!! IT"S CHUCK NORRIS!" (not sure where that came from, but still...) Really? Nintendo Wii-U...which basically is just a Wii + HD with a tablet controller....i don't like it. Another gimmick from a company that supposedly wants to get back to their hardcore core of players. I just don't see it.
Microsoft and their push to get the Kinect off and running just flat out fails again. And where are the new IPs that are exclusive to Xbox? Halo Remake and Halo 4? Sure you can say Gears of War 3, but we already knew about that as well. The only real 'shocker' of E3 in my eyes was Halo 4 and that was leaked a few hours before being revealed.
Other then that, what else can you say about 2011 E3 was really that exciting? I kept up to date with the news and the other thing that I went, about time, was Xbox Live's cloud service where you can download your account other xbox consoles without the need of saving it onto a memory card/usb.
I believe these companies are too focused on hardware and they should be more focused on getting our attentions with new IPs and more content.
I also believe that the Wii-U will sell, but it will also be the last of Nintendo's home console and they will slip into a 3rd part role but keep their ever steady handheld market going. Sony will lose even more money as the PSVita will grab gamers out there, but then realize it's got the same fate as the PSP had...getting boring and would wish those games on onto home consoles units. Kinect in my eyes is still a failure. Yes it sold, but so did the Wii and the only things that are selling on the wii are Wii Sports and Wii Fit. Sure some other Mario titles do well, but that's it.
I don't want to get on a rant here (love that quote from Dennis Miller) but in today's gaming, developers really need to focus on trying to create basic yet fun games. Just look at games like Minecraft, Portal, and even Bejeweled. Sure those games don't push boundaries in terms of quality of graphics, but they deliver fun games that keep you coming back. We also need more variety in the game world rather then sequel after sequel after sequel. Remember the days when we first heard about Halo, Metriod Prime, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy Tactics, Disgaea, Borderlands, Uncharted and Mass Effect? These games brought our nerdiness out because they we're original IP's and couldn't wait to play them. You could argue that Tactics wasn't the original IP..but it was the first of the FF title to be played in a SRPG setting. I grow tired of seeing the next Call of Duty, Resistance, Gears of War, Halo (can you blame me? 1,2,3,Reach,ODST,4,Remake, Halo Wars), Legend of Zelda (yes, the formula is the same as the last game..as the last game), and Killzone. I want to see something new. Companies should hire these Indie game developers on the side to let them bring out some fresh ideas in the gaming world rather than depend on sequels. I will admit that I enjoy football very much and would like to see Visual Concepts/2K Sports get these hands on some sort of football game sometime in the future, but you can't sell football unless you have the NFL license. Madden has ruined the football arena since 2005, Call of Duty has tainted FPS with their yearly release, and Activision killed off Guitar Hero because they tried to get too many GH's out at once and failed. So i guess in the end, I'm just a bitter guy with a different taste of games that misses the games of the past and can't stand at what I'm looking at for the games of the future.

For Microsoft I was personally excited over the the new dashboard having that Metro UI from WP7 and the upcoming Windows 8. Nice to see them unify their products with that great looking UI. I also thought it was neat that they will incorporate Kinect into the dashboard itself (no more separate Kinect hub). And depending on how that Live TV service goes, I might just end up canceling my cable.

It was pretty disappointing. All three press conferences were relatively weak, which set the tone for a pretty "meh" expo. I watched a few demos and trailers here and there, but I really didn't bother to keep track of what was going on.
I hate to say this, but I think the death of the IGN boards had something to do with my lack of excitement. Between the boards and watching everything through IGN's live stream, following E3 was simpler and more fun in previous years, and the community made it more interesting. This year I was flipping back-and-forth between these forums and Bad Cartridge, and some of the magic was lost for whatever reason. This forum in particular was relatively quiet, and I prefer to post here over Bad Cartridge.

It's difficult for companies to pioneer for the new, and different because most people don't want to put their money out for a new, and different.
People will buy a halo game because they liked the older halo games. It's the consumers that cause lack of innovation because they don't want to risk their 60 dollars on something that may or may not be shit.

I'm actually interested in Vita. Uncharted, Dynasty Warriors, Little Big Planet. Hopefully Vita gets decent battery life. The 3 hours of 3ds is for the birds. 3DS hopefully will get a new iteration before Pokemon hits. 3 hour battery life and Pokemon or Zelda = Kinect is actually good for dance games like Dance Central and fitness games like Zumba fitness. Child of Eden looks interesting. Not sure what to think about Wii U. Only 1 Tablet for a system is kinda weak. I can see multiplayer uses for the tablet. I remember Pokemon Collosuem let you use your Gameboy as your controller so you could select your moves without your opponent knowing. Tablet also seems really neat for sports games where you can select your play on your little sub screen without the opponent knowing.

I was thinking about this the other day. In retrospect, I thought it was an average E3. Some pros and cons (to me):
Pros -Vita is officially revealed and looks awesome. It also has some stellar launch games announced. -Konami HD Collections. In particular, I am really excited to play the Zone of the Enders games again. -Dust 514 and it's connection with Eve Online. This could either be really awesome, or a major failure. I'm banking on the former.
Cons -Microsoft's Conference. It was Kinect-heavy, as I figured it would be. But none of their titles were of much interest to me. The one game I was looking forward to (Star Wars Kinect) had a very poor showing. As for non-Kinect titles, I wasn't impressed by the Halo CE remake ($40 for THAT?) and way too early to get excited about Halo 4. I will be keeping my eye on it though. -Lack of new IPs. This was the most irritating part of the conference this year. Sequels are all fine and well, but without lots of new IPs to keep things fresh...
I'm still on the fence with Nintendo. I was initially very displeased with the Wii U, but the more I sit back and consider it, the better I feel about it. If nothing else, Nintendo has at least shown that they are wanting to get some of their old fanbase back.

Strong overall, Seth, but I just wasn't really wowed.
I liked what I saw of the Vita and there was an initial "neat' burst with respect to the U, but now that we are into the next week I'm like, meh.

Overall the show was VERY AVERAAGE but the games we are getting this fall are stellar.
MW3 actually surprised me and shall I dare say seems more impressive than BF3…
Skyrim, BF3, Tomb Raider, Uncharted 3, Gears 3, NBA 2K12, MW3…cannot think of anything else at the moment but these are all super quality games to look forward to this year.
Wii-U looks weak.
