Joystiq posted a nice gallery today of some pictures of the actual Wii U unit itself. The focus at Nintendo's conference was understandably the controller but we didn't get to really see the system itself. www.joystiq.com/screenshots/wii-u-hardware-press-shots/4202168/#/6It looks like a more rounded Wii, Joystiq describes it as a cross between a Wii and 360 which I'd have to agree with.

Definitely some interesting tech. Have they announced how much one of the touch screen controllers will cost?

It'll be interesting to see where the price point lands, Nintendo has traditionally tried to keep things affordable but I couldn't even guess how much one might cost.

I would have a hard time believing that people would be able to afford multiple tablet controllers. But they did say that old Wii controllers will work too. I wonder how they will tie it all together.

If you watched the Nintendo conference they did show multiplayer gameplay where one person used the tablet while the rest had Wiimotes. They talked about how in one game the person with the tablet would be a ship in the sky firing down while the people with the Wiimotes would be on the ground. The tablet player would view from the tablet itself while the others would use the television.

How many games like that can you really make before people are bored of that concept? Games will have to support multiple tablet controllers too right? What about racers? They mentioned using the tablet as a rear-view mirror or to look around. Or maybe there will be no local multi in those racers.

Agreed, they even alluded to the player with the tablet having an advantage over Wiimote players in another one of the demos. Basically the person with the tablet got an overhead view of the battle map and the locations of the players. I can certainly see developers having difficulties building local multiplayer around this. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see what more comes of it.

At its cheapest I am thinking $250. ...possibly $500 for an everything bundle (system, controller, wires).

Well if we're throwing wild guesses out I'm going to say $150. Nintendo finds a way to keep the costs lower than what we'll expect. Just a wild guess, I don't necessarily even believe what I just said

They should mark it at $9,999.99 to make it sound more affordable.

Well, considering the system's probably not going to be out until 2012, I imagine they didn't announce the price because they don't know how much it will be then. The components they use to build the system may go down in price over the course of the next few months, as fast as technology moves.
I don't think they will be able to do $150 considering they made a handheld that started at $250 and this has a lot more tech going into it than the 3DS. They may be able to match $250, though.
I've been saying it looks like a Apple and Nintendo had a baby, but I guess it does look kind of like a Wii mixed with a 360.

I said (I forgot where) that PSV was going to be $249 for the basic model.
The WiiU will retail for no less than $299. But even then I'm not so confident. $349 itches my spidey-senses.

I'd say it's likely to be between $250 and $350. For the controller $75 to $80 is plausible. depending on what exactly they do with it. I wouldn't expect the controller to pass $100, that's the outside of the range imo.

I never really got into the Wii but the new Wii-U has got me interested a bit...The price has to be reasonable tho...I really couldn't see myself paying 75-80 for a controller tho

Most games currently seem to only use one controller.

I'm more worried about the price of these controllers and if it'll turn off buyers. They look pretty bad ass, though!

I wouldn't expect the controller to pass $100, that's the outside of the range imo. Considering that a brand-new Sony brand PS3 controller is $60 MSRP I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Wii U control pad at $100 MSRP at least. Don't forget that the Wii U is backwards compatible with games and peripherals so actually using the control pad may be more of a choice for many games as opposed to a necessity although not using it would definitely lessen the gaming experience. Modified: I'm thinking that the control pad may be the cash cow part of this equation
