Meaning if you could just pick pieces of games and combine them, you dont have to state games or anything but just what would be the ultimate rpg ever for you?
Ill post my thoughts later, but wanted to open it up to you guys first!

The first thing that comes to mind would be Dragon Age: Origins with the battle system of the second one, with the freedom and world size of Oblivion.

Baldurs Gate II. All it needs is modern graphics.

Persona 4, but maybe with a bit better of an ending.
I guess what I'm saying is that Persona 4 is pretty much the perfect RPG already.

hrmm... my favorite rpgs are kingdom hearts, ffx, oblivion, valkyria chronicles, and enjoyed countless others. i loved the combat systems of kh and the HUD of da2 was very nice and clean. maybe mix it with the character development of valkyria chronicles and persona 3/4. world exploration / vast open world like oblivion. the storytelling of ffx made ffx my favorite of all rpgs. mix it with some mass effect character interactions. if multiplayer, then a mmorpg feel like dark age of camelot (best mmo evar) /represent. would love some creativity to make it fresh and new like vc and p3 did. i want difficult decisions like dragon age sometimes did (anders for example.. wont say more). how about a game where nearly every fight is basically a boss battle? ie shadow of the colossus. except tons more bosses

Good Story, Wacky Characters, Good Battling, Open World, and Completly IP. None of that Spikey haired big sword guy wondering and becomes a hero.

Basically something with the gameplay of Mount & Blade except set in the type of open, yet incredibly detailed, setting of Morrowind or Oblivion. Work a way to make having large armies make sense yet also have small party exploration in caves or dungeons Morrowind style or small strike forces. Magic and stealth (fantasy stuff not found in M&B) could be worked in but only in a way where they are unique and rare. I wouldn't want 200+ mages making up an entire army. I'm talking like 1 mage per 100 physical warriors.

Alot of great comments guys.
Heres what id love, a game with the scope and size of Everquest which is absolutely stunning on all levels, take a world like that with a loot system that is as expansive as an MMO but is all doable even for singleplayer. Althought of course co op.
But i think EQ had one of the most amazing worlds ever, but of course it was an MMO. But the loot system is so dynamic i simply love it and i would love to see a game where there are multiple areas to level, multiple areas with loot better than others, huge bosses, dungeons etc..
All with the look and style of like Skyrim so far.
And a quest system that is deep and rewarding. These things for me would just make the ultimate rpg, id love it.

Basically from I am gathering…Skyrim.
If they fixed a lot of the BS from Oblivion I see it as being the greatest RPG ever made. Hard to say now but it is looking like it.

Just give me a combination of gameplay from FF V, with FF VI's/Dragon Quest charm, combine that with the 108 Star system of the Suikoden games, and the epic story of something like a Mega Ten game and I'm all good!

The world of an MMO, or maybe even larger.
A compelling story, with characters that progress, including the villain.
A questing system that causes an impact on the world, perhaps even a changing world.
The ability to upgrade loot through your own efforts. Blacksmithing, leatherworking, etc.
The ability to build a team (similar to Mount and Blade formula. They level with you, you design what archetype they will be, and equip them).
Factions, and the ability to play as a good or bad individual. To go beyond this: The ability to rise above just "the hero" to become something more (or something less)
Co-op.
The chance to go into the wild and start anew. Build a house, a fortress, a tree city. Sky's the limit.
Probably too much to ask for. If I had to choose the most important, since it kind of got out of hand in the true RPG sense, I'd say the first 5 are most important to me.

Open world The Witcher/The Witcher 2 with fully voiced characters and loads of things to do would be my dream RPG.
