The current PTR build is slated as "Release". The estimated time of arrival is Tuesday, June 21st.
The following Tuesday the new arena season begins.
Some "highlights", if you will: 1. New raiding dungeon, complete with 10/25 and normal/heroic versions of each boss. 7 in total. 2. New area, with a new type of daily questing hub. Players will be trying to push into the Firelands and then take that area over. Daily quests will need to be completed in total to unlock all purchasable content with valor points, etc. 3. New Dungeon Guide that lists abilities of bosses you have killed 4. A new epic quest, revolving around Thrall and his ascension to something more (speculation is he'll be taking Deathwings place as Earthwarder) 5. A new Legendary staff revolving around the blue dragonflight and their appointing a new aspect
Thoughts?

I really want to give it a shot, but I doubt I will play WoW again until the winter.

There are a few things of interest to me, but I quit a few months ago and I have no plans on going back anytime soon.

I cancelled last night actually, just not enough time. I'm considering going back in the winter, which is when 4.3/4.3.5 are scheduled to release.
They're trying to push it to have 4.3 and 4.4 out before New Years, I doubt it though.

Very good point. I also think it depends on how many pre-Deathwing raids they want. We already know that one raid before him will be "The War of the Ancients" which could have a ton of bosses and take quite awhile to make. Another one has tons of speculation, but is unknown. The big question is Deathwing. Is he going to be a single, massive boss encounter. Or will he have cronies? I imagine though that once Bioware gives the final bit of The Old Republic info Blizzard will counter with either "War of the Ancients" or "Deathwing" with an added announcement of the new expansion.

Well, as it stands Heroic difficulty is now open.
The first week was spent doing the normal's to unlock heroics, and now people have had one night in the new dungeons on heroic mode. 3 out of 7 bosses have already been downed worldwide, most of the guilds who are on this path expect to have the tier completed, normal and heroic, by next Sunday (depending on raid schedule).
They better hurry with their next release. The average guilds aren't far behind. My old guild is already 4/7 normal (3 raiding nights, 4 hours a piece), and a guild my buddy switched too which is much more casual (2 raiding nights, 2-3 hours a piece) is already 3/7 normal.
Should get interesting.

No, it didn't, and honestly no one ever expected it to. The better guilds have gotten to the point where 5-6 people (of different roles) are frapsing during raids and organizing abilities. Two weeks before the patch even came out guilds had video of the encounters from beta (for tanks, DPS, and healers) and full ability lists to learn and use. It's tough to keep up with the flow of information. Some people say, "Well, they'll add more abilities between the end of beta and release." That can't happen, because it already takes weeks to test abilities and mechanics, to just add something could make the encounter unbeatable.

It blows my mind how people can blaze through the new content so fast. However, I can't help but shrug at the people who whine and complain a week or two after each patch. I remember the good ol' days when no one had encounters memorized before it was implemented in the game. People would grind their way through new content by trial and error, which is the way it should be. Now, I understand that people still do this in beta, but I fail to see what makes everyone else get over-prepared and spoil themselves before even touching the content. This wasn't a rant aimed at you, dunker. I don't know how you play or how you prepare. This was more aimed at the hardcore crowd who never ever seem to be happy with what Blizz does. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not as happy with the state of the game now as it was back during vanilla WoW, but that has more to do with the general sense of wonder we all had at a new game and a new community. It's funny, I sit here and rant about how I don't want to play WoW anymore, and yet here I am talking about it... which in turn, makes me want to resub.

No problem on the rant, I actually agree with you. I would check out some of the videos and prepare timely, but I knew that doing that would put me ahead. Besides, there are some things in encounters that just can't be translated properly in video or text, you have to experience it. I honestly think their beta's should be closed until release. At least the raiding portions of them. This would ease a lot of the initial griping people do once the patch/expansion goes live. There will always be people upset with games, in some way, shape, or form. It's unavoidable. As Blizzard grows (I think they got back up above 11 million subs) those voices that used to be told to "shut it" have suddenly become LOUD. It's just amazing how many people you will see cry on different forums. Vanilla WoW was great, so many things were new. And if there was info the internet about an encounter, it was minimal at best. "We think he does this when he reaches a certain %, but we aren't really sure". It is funny isn't it, I cancelled recently and yet here I am talking about it. Whether or not it's your sort of thing, the game, community, and business model all fascinate me.

I haven't been in a guild that raids in a while, all my wow friends lost interest in the game when Rift came out.
^ rofl
I have the cata collectors edition, and would have all of them if I didn't get the others for cheap on sale lol

Very much so. I do love it more than hate it, though.
