Really depends if there are enough games that I like. I bought Dreamcast, PS2, PS3 all on release because there were good games I wanted to play. PS2 also doubled as a DVD player and PS3 as my blue ray player. All those systems work to this day. 3DS I got on release only because my DSlite broke like a week before it came out and I regret it. Considering buying a Vita on release since with Sony the PSP fat actually was the best one as far as battery life with the extended battery option. Will need to see launch line up for Wii U.
